Lux Cafe — Restaurant in Goshen

Went out for breakfast with some family, all was good except the hashbrowns, when I received my plate the potatoes would’ve been mashed potatoes instead of hashbrowns. I couldn’t get my servers attention so we grabbed another and asked for them to fry the potatoes longer. Now, as a chef on his day off going in, there’s two things that I noticed. 1) The server used my knife that was for my ham to scrape, said hashbrowns off and returned my plate with just eggs and ham, And there was no knife. I waited about 15 minutes to get my hash browns back. And when my hashbrowns got back, it had pieces of bacon and sausage in them when I only ordered ham. Definitely sounds like rushed laziness. 2) Why would she bring me a plate that’s unfinished if I sent it back already? In the restaurant world that’s pretty unsanitary, especially for eggs and ham that could be remade faster than I waited for my hashbrowns to get back. How many people touched my plate? Why not keep it under the lamp until the hashbrowns are done? The atmosphere was OK everyone seemed happy except for me because there was a kid (buss boy) who had a NBA YoungBoy shirt on and I could see his underwear atrociously. Food was good, we went for breakfast just to try this place while we were in Goshen. They were very busy and every time we drove past they were busy so we figured it must be good so we went and gave it a try. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away, our server on the other hand seemed to be very distracted, she brought us menus and said she would be back to see what we wanted to drink then came back to take our drink order then brought them and says she would be back for our orders, it has been about ten minutes so we were ready but she wasn't so we waited and waited and waited so long that another server came to take our order because she noticed how long we were sitting there. As she stepped up our missing waitress came around the corner and said she's got it so of course I said I thought you forgot about us as she responded she had another table she was taking care of. Once our order was taken the food was out in 5 minutes and was pretty good but then we waited for her to bring our ticket to pay. Now all the other servers were taking care of their customers and people were coming and going just fine so I believe it was just bad luck...

The food quality, quantity, and value gets 5 stars. The service receives 1 star. I had the Banana Foster French Toast. Absolutely delicious. ZERO complaints on the food. Now the negatives:

The meal I ordered had a key missing ingredient which the server admitted she was supposed to put on the plate.

We had to ask for refills on our drinks, which my coffee never did get refilled. 30+ minutes empty.

Our empty dishes were not cleared from the table for the entire visit. 4 adults to a booth got uncomfortably crowded.

Waited at least 15 minutes (at a still cluttered table) to get our check after we finished our meal.

When we brought the issues to the attention of the hostess at the register, we were told "That happens sometimes." After a bit of a discussion they removed the coffee from the bill to compensate for the lack of refills and the otherwise lackluster service.

If this place can ever get the service up to the same standards as the skills displayed by the kitchen it would be 5 stars all day long. I hope this helps them to make the needed changes to improve...
