As a hospitality and restaurant service professional with over 15 years of experience, I have never felt inclined to leave a review until today. Being a big fan of Glizzy's, I eagerly celebrated National Hot Dog Day at Jim's, my favorite Glizzy/hot dog spot since I was 10 years old. Now, at 42, I can confidently say that Jim's has always served the best hot dogs. However, today's visit left me deeply disappointed, not because of the food, which was as delicious as ever, but due to the customer service experience. I understand that inflation has driven up food prices, and I'm willing to pay more for a good meal. But being charged $14.32 for a hot dog, tater tots, and a large drink seemed quite expensive given the portion sizes, which have remained the same. After enjoying my first two hot dogs, I returned to order two more. The person who took my initial order was clearly a trainee, and I don't hold her accountable for the experience, as she was visibly new and still learning. However, the person who took my second order seemed very impatient and asked if I wanted a beef hot dog or a regular hot dog. I responded that I didn't know, whatever I ordered the first time. She replied that she didn't know what I had the first time, even though she was the trainer training the trainee during my initial order less than 10 minutes earlier.Later, I went back to the counter to get a refill on my beverage and noticed they were using two-liter soda bottles to pour drinks. There was no sign indicating that the fountain drink machine was out of order. In my experience, soda from a two-liter bottle tends to go flat quickly. Had I known this beforehand, I might have chosen a different beverage.Overall, while the food remains as good as I remember, the customer service left much to be desired. It's important to note that the person taking my second order had no way of knowing if this was my first time at the establishment or if I was a regular customer. The way you treat every customer, regardless of whether it's their first or hundredth visit, should be consistent. This consistency is what encourages customers to return.I understand that inflation impacts food prices, which is beyond a business's control, but excellent customer service is something that can and should be maintained, especially when prices rise. This feedback is not sent with anger or resentment but out of a desire to see improvements. Jim's holds a special place in my heart, and I hope it continues to be a cherished spot for many years to come. Nostalgia is crucial for customers, and maintaining a high level of service is key to...
Read moreThis local establishment has been around for some 60 years, and it indeed has some of the quaint and cute trappings of an old fashioned burger joint. But the food does not measure up to what one might hope and expect.
Though the menu board is the neat, old-school type, it is unclear as to what things are. For example, a “combo”, as it was explained to me, is not a combo by the definition used by the rest of the First World. Instead, a combo means there is cheese on your hot dog. A “Big Jim” burger is akin to a Big Mac—no way to know that without asking. But I didn’t want to ask TOO many questions, for there were two people behind me, and the worker behind the counter, while not rude, would certainly earn no accolades from Saint Monica of Hippo.
So I hastily ordered a Big Jim burger and a hot dog all the way. “All the way—you mean chili, onions, and mustard?”, NonSaint Monica asked. “And slaw”, I replied. Evidently their all the way dog does not have slaw.
But it DOES have cheese! Which I didn’t ask for. Block cheese. Cold block cheese. I didn’t much care for it. Removing it helped. The rest of the dog was pretty good, but the chili was room temperature. I hate that. The pink wiener was decent tasting, and the chili was good, but, as I mentioned, cold.
The Big Jim burger was a solid effort. Good taste and toppings, but was also just lukewarm.
The fries were hot but tasted just ok.
The price was acceptable, but they charge 25 cents for a soda refill. This is almost offensive because these places make a KILLING, profit wise, on fountain drinks—on the order of 1000%. So charging for refills is just avaricious.

Read moreI stopped by there yesterday because I had a taste for some hot dogs. The hot dogs were fine; that's not the issue. When I walked in, I felt out of place. To tell the truth, I just did not feel a warm, inviting vibe. Coming in for the first time, I did not know where to stand to place my order. No one said anything. Some people came in after me and they ordered before me and that's how I figured out where I needed to go to place my order. Although the sign "place order here" was up, I did not see it at first because I was not looking up. I was going to where the cash register was because I am accustomed to paying after I place my order. Nevertheless, I will not go back there again. Someone else's experience may be totally...
