Disappointing...
The good: My wife, daughter and I ate at the Mesquite Pit for Father's Day on 6/20/2021. We arrived just minutes before opening and there was a line. Our wait for a table was not too long, maybe 15 minutes. Our table was inside the restaurant next to the patio on the river so the view was nice. The bread was good although cold.
The bad: First it was the drinks, the one time I asked for something other than Diet Coke they didn't have it so I ended up with a Diet Coke and was never offered a refill until I asked for one and then was served some luke warm tea in a styrofoam glass. The first drink my daughter ordered was also unavailable and she had to make an alternate choice. My wife ordered a frozen margarita and she was not impressed with it.
I ordered a 3/4" thick ribeye and what I got was maybe 1/2" thick and nearly 1/3 of the steak was fat. It was not a bad steak but far from coming close to a steak I would say was great. So not impressed here either. The mashed potato served in a small bowl looked like a scoop of ice cream, buy this I mean a really small serving. The masked potato was ok but again nothing to write home about. The coleslaw was also not impressive.
My wife ordered catfish and again, said it was only "ok" but not as good as our go to restaurant here in Granbury.
Our daughter didn't comment on her food but she didn't eat all of it so that says something.
Our server was polite but she was slow and maybe she was new or had too many tables, but we hoped for a little more attention.
Our overall impression of this restaurant is that they try, the food did appear to be all fresh and it was not bad food just not good enough for us to return. Maybe it's the lake / river, it seems like the further away from it you get the better...
Read moreBeautiful day. Not very crowded. Got a table outside. Waitress took 15 minutes to make it to the table. Another 20 to get 2 beers. No silverware, asked. Ordered appetizer. 25 minutes, Asked for silverware again and ordered 2 more beers. Got Beers in 10 minutes. Ordered seafood sampler, and brisket and rib plate with salad. Asked for silverware again.(3rd time). Ate appetizer with fingers. Meal took 25 minutes, no silverware. Asked again. Meal and salad arrived, no silverware. Salad had rotten lettuce in it.. Asked for another salad. 7 minutes later we had new salad and the "Coveted" silverware. Asked for tarter sauce and bbq sauce. (Why does that come with your order?) Brisket was good, ribs had a weird whang aftertaste like coal oil. Fried catfish, fried shrimp, no flavor at all. Tater sauce that finally arrived later was only flavor. Fried shrimp were the most bland thing I've ever ate besides water. The bacon wrapped shrimp were the best thing we ate there. The onion rings, were again flavorless. And no, we didn't have covid. (Taste buds intact). In summary, other wait staff were taking good care of their customers with multiple visits and being courteous. Our Waitress, not so much. Most importantly, invite me back when this cook is gone and you get one that can actually taste and seasons food, and not cook flavors out of everything in the kitchen and doesn't serve rotten vegetables. Oh yea, the tomatoes, onions pickles, cucumber on the salad were good. But there again, they weren't cooked by...
Read moreMy wife and I first went to the Mesquite Pit Grill about three months ago on one of our many trips to see the progress on a house we were having built in Granbury. I am a religous user of Yelp and wasn't too sure about the place because of the mediocre ratings. Anyway, we decided to try it because it looks like a great place with a nice new building and a patio right on the lake, so what could be the down side? We were seated on said patio which pleased me and were greeted quickly by our server. My wife ordered the grilled catfish with the cowboy beans. She was quite pleased with her choice and said the beans were a must. I had the grilled chicken salad which was definitely a meal sized for a big guy. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked as I like it. The service in all of our visits since this first has been fine with one exception and I really don't know what caused it to slip on that occasion. The barbecue here is not the best like Franklin's in Austin or thr Railhead in Ft. Worth but it ain't bad either. And the beans are still very good as are every entree that I have tried. Good burgers and fries too. On my last visit I finally said the hell with the diet and had the chicken fried steak and I recommend it heartily. It was worth the calories and I will occasionally have it again. They have Blood and Honey and other Revolver selections on tap so they have my needs covered. I feel lucky to have Mesquite Pit in my new hometown and will be a...
