As soon as I walked in they sat me down and gave me a big bowl of chips (really nice and warm and crispy) w a flask of salsa (not very spicy 🌶 thank goodness but just right). It’s wonderful when you are starving after a long day of work. The margaritas as huge here and the glasses are beautiful. The cups are also beautiful for just even my hot water I asked for. The staff are all friendly and nice and talk with you just because they seem to like people which is very awesome. If the staff aren’t happy it’s not a place I want to eat at. They have horchata here too! It’s a rice drink and it’s so good and different flavors. There are vegetarian options as most Mexican food allows for and they had a specifically vegetarian dish that you can make as a fajita or burrito or quesadilla or other ways of having vegetables. They also have a fresh guacamole 🥑 station person who comes around to make fresh guacamole at your table for an extra fee of $11 and you can have it with your meal or your chips. You can add anything from the cart to your guacamole that you want so it’s tailored to your liking. The fajitas I ordered came so fast I didn’t even wait for my meal after ordering it. I was so amazed they worked like NYC style…asap. No time wasted if you want to eat right away. I think it was not more than 7 min after I ordered it that I got my fajitas. It came with rice, sliced avocado, beans, and pico de gallo (again perfectly mild and not spicy bc that kills the taste for me so it was perfect), and also 3 corn or flour tortillas warmed up and placed in the the tortillas container to stay warm. My waiter Feyo asked me how I was doing 9 times during my dinner. Just awesome. That’s a record for me in my entire life of dining! So Amazed at how much attention he gave me while busy with all his other customers. Shout out to Franklin who was so sweet and friendly and talked w me while I ate at the bar and taught me some things about surviving North Dakota cold in -30 degrees. Just a great atmosphere to eat and enjoy watching TV or sports at while you enjoy Mexican food. BTW the tap water was great too bc they put a fresh slice of seedless cucumber in a tall and huge clean glass and it was so refreshing. I ate the cucumber slice at the end because it was inviting! Most places never think to add cucumbers to water … hotels maybe but not a restaurant. The decor is beautiful. The tables are easy to clean and updated. The bathroom was clean and pretty. And the icing on the cake! The pay process is so fast w a personal card hand held biller the waiter brings to you and all you do is tap your card! No waiting for paper receipts…no paper wasted...all green...and all done in 3 seconds. Plus, the tip guide is presented to you on the handheld device so no need...

First time going and it was more than I expected. The service was friendly and always checking on people. The presentation of the food was spot on, as you eat with your eyes first. Food came out extremely quick and hot. Had to experience the guacamole being made at our table. The chorrizo street tacos and the special tamales are the best we've ever had. The young lady was happy and it was delicious. It is a little expensive, but for home made food and a real taste of Mexico, it was worth it. We now have 2 good authentic Mexican restaurants in Grand Forks, Charras and El Gordito. UPDATE: Another great meal and lots fun. Makena our server was awesome. Very friendly, polite and around several times to check on us. Definitely will be back. UPDATE: July 18th, take out was awesome. Package very well, tasty, and still hot when I got home. Only thing missing was the queso for the chips, I got Salsa in its place. Still tasty. FATHER'S DAY UPDATE: food is still fantastic. The chori- pollo was outstanding, great juicy chicken and outstanding chorizo. The pork flautas were packed and cooked to perfection. The house-made guacamole is a flavor bomb, great quality fresh veggies and made to your taste, I went with everything. Service was spot on, and really enjoyed the cucumber water. UPDATE SEP 15th, another superb lunch. The Al Pastor tacos were packed with flavor and fresh pineapple gave it that extra punch. Loved the Charas Special, the mixed meats, shrimp and squash was unexpected. The sauce was the...

Being born and raised in Southern California and a frequent visitor to Mexico, I know a thing or two about authentic Mexican food. Relocating to the Midwest has been easy on my wallet, but hard on my tastebuds - so honestly, I went to Charras with low expectations.

I knew I was in for an experience when my friend and I were greeted at our seats by a lovely woman making fresh guacamole BY HAND. (The avocados are from Michoacán- if you know, you know.) Our waitress, (Esme I think??) was so friendly and even shared her own recommendations which I always appreciate when trying a new spot. The night just got better and better with top shelf tequila flowing and REAL STREET TACOS, rice and beans topped with queso - the type that doesn’t melt, not that nacho sauce bs - and a variety of salsas to suit anyone’s spice tolerance. An amazing meal completed with the most delicious hot chocolate and churro dessert platter. The menu really has something for everyone.

I could rave about the food for hours but perhaps the most impressive aspect of the restaurant is the chemistry and dynamic of the staff. They are communicative to one another, professional and attentive to guests, and knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine. Really the epitome of an incredible, family owned business that’s passionate about their craft. I left knowing I had found a place that felt just like home.

Thank you, Charras! I wish your restaurant continued success! My compliments to the chef and the whole team. See y’all...
