**New review as of 5/31: Got to the restaurant & was seated at 3:10p. NOT busy. Waitresses at booths by me when I was seated. Salsa & chips brought immediately. Salsa was really good this time!
BUT - I sat for 20 minutes, with 2 waitresses walking by me, a girl closing the blinds and even the girl who seated me looking at me - not 1 person attempted to wait on me, nor asked if I had been waited on. Still in my booth, I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. They actually got her on the phone (Nichole) & after I explained my issue & told her I was going to leave, she found me at my booth. She was sincerely apologetic and offered to comp a meal for me, for there or to go. I declined, because not only was it not about getting a free meal, but I didn't want to be waited on by people who blatantly ignored me. I appreciate that she was willing to make things right, but those waitresses who ignored me not only lost out on a good tip, they cost the restaurant a repeat customer. --------‐--------------------------------------------------- This is a freshly opened restaurant, still trying to work out kinks. My son and I were warmly greeted by smiling front of house & wait staff nearby.
I have eaten at the Blue Goose in Plano and enjoyed it. Tried their house ritas (plus a few specialry drinks) and found them decent enough, but I actually think alcoholic drinks are not a Blue Goose strong point overall.
Our waiter was super friendly and enthusiastic, but forgot quite a bit of what we ordered or needed refilled. He quickly made things right, so no issue.
Ordered queso (not their strong point either) and asked for salsa Fresca, which has some nice heat and promptly added it to the queso & really helped. The texture of their queso is Velveeta feeling.
Ordered a house Rita and what I got was almost clear and tasted off, so I asked them to remake it, which he happily had them do. It was still funky, so he took it back & off my tab. I ended up asking him for a swirl, which is frozen rita mix and sangria. He looked a bit confused and I said frozen rita mix & sangria swirled together and he said he knew what it was. What I got was frozen rita mix swirled with strawberry puree, which was so very sweet. I didn't want to make more of a fuss, so I just drank it. I won't be ordering drinks at this Goose again.
I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which I absolutely loved at the Plano location. Theirs was super flavorful and had a bit of heat, which I thought fantastic! This bowl was not quite as complex tasting and had no heat at all. It was still a good bowl of soup with tons of chicken, but they added sizable whole mushrooms.....that was NOT a pleasant surprise. I have never had chicken tortilla soup any where, ever, that had mushrooms! The Plano Blue Goose didn't add it to theirs. Sorry, but mushrooms shouldn't be in that soup! Won't order it again at this Goose either.
My son tried the Dirty Bob, with steak and said it was decent. The steak wasn't quite as good as he had hoped. He said his refried beans were very bland, but the rice had a good flavor. He said he would order the dish again, but try their charro beans next time.
Will come back to this Goose again, but honestly the food & drink was better at the Plano Goose. Staff at this location was very pleasant, quickly corrected any mistakes and had tables turned...
Read moreMy wife and I went on our first date at the Blue Goose and recently we tried the new one that just opened up in Grand Prairie. I was hoping to get some fried ice cream because that’s what we shared when we first went out. The franchise has switched the decorum from authentic to an almost fast food environment. Small dining tables with semi uncomfortable chairs, flashy video screens and neon light displays replace the Mexican home style setting, that I recall. Welcome to 21st Century Dining Sinjin - no old black and white pictures of the Mexican landscape, it was more of a modern multi colored dreamscape . The walls displayed some interesting Art Deco prints and more than a few religious pictures of a bare heart. Some had thorns and a cross, others were aflame? I dunno but the hearts were ubiquitous for unclear reasons. The service was quick and the waiter Eric had the menu memorized - no fried ice cream sorry. He knew how to up-sell the table, you might think guacamole offered with chips actually come with the chips but nope, it’s a $9.00 appetizer. Tasty as all get out though. I have a weakness for chicken enchiladas covered in sour cream sauce and my better half got a guacamole tostado W/brisket.
We were gonna share a plate because we are both occupying more space than we did this time last year - but I threw a fit and said I wanted my own plate! And I’m glad I did cause my order was tons tastier than hers. I have to warn you though the chicken in my enchiladas was a little on the tough side. The cantina part of The Blue Goose Cantina Mexican Restaurant houses the heart of the place and is a large open spaced area that you are almost forced to walk by or around. That’s tough for a guy like me who likes to secretly drink in a quiet corner somewhere harboring dark thoughts and dire intentions, but most establishments want the bar in a well viewed part of the restaurant. It promotes drink sells and makes it easier to spot a problem drinker if one surfaces. As for me, I told my wife that the afternoon was all about her and the special memory of our first date so I would only drink Coca Cola. I didn’t even look at the drink menu because in my wife’s mind that would be like looking at a Sports Illustrated Swim Suit magazine.
If you got a special gal and she likes Tex-Mex, I recommend the Blue Goose even if they no longer serve...
Read moreWe are regular customers at the Blue Goose Cantina in Grand Prairie and have always enjoyed dining here. Unfortunately, our visit today was extremely disappointing and upsetting.
While we were eating, we saw two large roaches crawling near our table—one even climbing up the wall. Several women nearby screamed in panic, but no manager or staff member came over to check on the situation or see why customers were alarmed.
Our waitress, Ariana (long red hair, long lashes), was rude and dismissive when we informed her about the roaches. She told us we “needed to speak to the manager,” even though we explained she could simply report it to her supervisors. We even suggested she take care of the other two tables that also saw the roaches, but no one apologized or showed concern.
My boyfriend ended up finding employees himself to address the issue and was the one directing staff to remove the roaches. When we asked to be moved to another table due to the second roach, we ended up relocating ourselves to a high-top table. Ariana’s attitude worsened after that—she did not bring us water, never apologized, and avoided checking on us. When my boyfriend asked for the check, she ignored him and continued walking away, although she clearly heard him. We also saw her being friendly and attentive to new customers, which made the contrast in treatment even more noticeable.
Although we received a $10 discount, (we didn’t ask for it but we appreciate $10 bucks off for having to deal with Ariana’’s bad attitude and 2 roaches bullying us) so yeah, we were not looking for free food. We manage hotels ourselves and understand pests can appear unexpectedly but what matters is how staff handle it. Ariana’s poor attitude and lack of empathy made the situation far worse than the roaches themselves.
We are sharing this experience so you are aware and can take steps to improve staff training, especially in customer service and handling unexpected situations. We also have a video of the incident, if needed. Ariana you made the situation worse than the 2 roaches crawling and my...
