Would not recommend based on our experience last night. We went for the costume party and the waitress or manager (not sure of her job title) lead us to some tables to sit. There were about 5 tables that had sticky notes on them that said “Jen” two of them didn’t so we sat there. After 3 hours we wanted to play pool so we moved two sticky notes to two tables right next to the other tables reserved by Jen, so that we could play pool and enjoy some food. We spent $60 on food that we waited a very long time for (understandable because they were busy). What we thought was “Jen’s” party showed up and sat at the tables. We asked them if they wanted us to switch back to the two adjacent tables, they said no, no problem. Awesome. We finally started eating our food and this woman comes up to us and starts going off on us for being at her table. At this point we are confused because we think she’s with the other group that we already talked to. The woman was belligerent and kept saying she works there. You could tell she had been drinking, and we all offered to move and said we didn’t want any trouble. She then said it was fine if we stayed there, because they had multiple other tables. We explained the misunderstanding and we thought everything was fine. We started eating and she repeatedly came up to us too close for comfort and said again that we stole her table and that “her daughter was watching us” and said that we did. I don’t understand why if her daughter was “watching us” why she couldn’t have just said that they preferred those two tables instead of the other two. The woman repeatedly came up to us which was very uncomfortable. I tried explaining again, but she was intoxicated. At this point I walked away and told my fiancé I was ready to just leave the food and go to another establishment. We ended up leaving about 10 minutes shy of the Halloween costume contest. We will not return. Very unprofessional staff. I’m not sure why they would reserve tables for staff on an event night in the first place, but regardless this staff member Jen soured our experience. Would love to speak to the owners of the...
Read moreVery disappointing. The Twisted Bull is hands-down one of the most toxic places I’ve ever stepped into. I was called homophobic slurs throughout the night unprovoked and for no reason and my female friend experienced back-handed misogynistic comments like it was normal behavior….something I never experienced even coming from a small hick town. The fact that this kind of garbage is tolerated — or worse, encouraged — is pathetic.
This bar isn’t just outdated and unsafe, it’s dangerous. Nobody deserves to be treated with that level of disrespect, and no business that allows this kind of hate should even be operating — Grand Rapids has plenty of places where you won’t be harassed, demeaned, or called names like you’re in high school again.
The only thing they have going for them is the mechanical bull (therefore two stars)—which if you’re a man you hardly get a fair chance on and if you’re a woman you might as well be paying to perform for a crowd of...
Read moreGeorgia the host of karaoke ruined the whole night for us. We’ve never been to this establishment, and decided downtown wasn’t in our plans for Halloween, and we were excited to sing and partake in the costume contest, as we dressed in a couple's costume for the first time. Georgia was intently mean, and made a rude comment as my girlfriend left the stage. She intentionally embarrassed my girlfriend on stage, and turned the mic down so nobody could hear her sing with Georgia who sang over her. I noticed she did this, and was very upset, because my girlfriend was nervous, but sings very well. As we left before our food arrived, she was unkind, as she was next to the door. Steve, and the barback very very accommodating, but we felt so uncomfortable that we closed our tab without eating, and will probably not return especially if she’s hosting an event. I would not recommend this experience to friends...
