Bagel Beanery — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

I usually just stop in to pick up bagels.. Best bagels in the state! My previous review gave this place 5 stars simply because the bagels are excellent! Today, 2/14/16, my wife and I decided to dine in. First of all, the girl that waited on us was obviously less than enthusiastic to be working there. We ordered signature sandwiches and never received the chips. I had to ask for them. The place is filthy. Every wooden surface in the place was tacky and the floors were horrendous. Maybe it's just me, but when I order a bagel sandwich, I expect the bagel to be toasted.. Or at least ask. We received our sandwiches on non toasted bagels and we're never given an option. I regret tipping before we received our food.

I've experienced much better here in the past and chalk this visit up to poor employees.

Use to like them more but last two times I went in the service was horrid. The last time my husband and I went in at 5:15 and ordered a bagel. Guy behind the counter says "to go?" We said no. We planned to eat real quick and finish our errands. He gives us a scoff and says well just so you know we close at 6, he seemed really peeved. If it was 10 to I would understand but really? Then at 5:30 he makes the rounds to us and the other two tables that they were closing soon so... I worked at a cafe all through college, I get it people tend to overstay their welcome but that doesn't give you the right to treat paying customers who just walked in the door like crap. Seemed like he just wanted everyone out so he could close up early.

Also generally seemed dirty and there were rotting pumpkins outside I'm assuming from Halloween at the end of...

Today I went to get a breakfast bagel, the El Paso. They were quick and polite. BUT when I got back to work and ate one half of my sandwich, I look at theother half which had parchment paper hanging off the sandwich. GUYS I ate paper lol. YES PAPER. They must portion out one of the items from the sandwich. I called let them know of the mistake, they offered to make another sandwich. I only work down the road so it was fine also gave me a punch card for another sandwich on my next visit. When I got back to work I ate my sandwich to find how they threw everything together and it was super messy(unlike the other one) and also the chorizo on it was burnt to a crisp and didnt even cover the sandwich. In my head if there was a mistake the item needs to look and taste perfect. That's just me though. Super disappointed, I use to...
