OFFERING A $200 REWARD FOR ANYONE WHO IDENTIFIES THE EMPLOYEE THAT ASSAULTED ME! Up to $500⦠depending on the outcome of the prosecution.
Update 8/2/2025: thank you all for the support! I feel a bit less alone in this. The charges are still active against the male employee who assaulted me however, the business is still utilizing attorneys to protect themselves.
3/15/2025 I was slammed to the ground. I tried to follow my friends who went inside. I asked to be let inside & the bouncer slammed meā a 98lbs woman to the ground. The force caused my oral equipment to break. Others went back in with no issues. If there was a re-entry policy, I couldnāt tell. I did call 911 as I was assaulted by staff. Such an unbelievable experience for a woman with a masters degreeā who is openly honest & transparent.
3/17/2025 After approaching the business about this, I received an unhinged email from the owner stating that I was acting outside the terms of their policy. I was not. I conduct myself in a manner that reflects the values of those I represent in the community. The owner also stated I must remove social media posts when I have not posted in a couple years.
Update! 4/2/2025 I was able to view about an hour and a half of footage (with police) to determine what I was doing and determine the identity of the suspect. It was confirmed that I was acting according to policy however, the suspect was not identified given the poor video angles. The bar requires a search warrant to get ANY video so if something (nefarious) happens to you there, keep this in mind. The investigation is ongoing.
4/3/2025: As the investigation is stalled, I DID choose to post about my experienceā after being told not to. The bar blocked me.
The business is beyond challenging to work with when...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHappy to add to the plethora of 1-star reviews that Tavern deserves!
Our party of eight showed up on a very dead Saturday night around 10 or 11āno line at all and not busy inside. Not a single individual in our party could be considered too drunk to be served by any reasonable person. The most sober person in our group (literally 2 drinks) was last to get in. After getting I.D. approved, she barely stumbled because there is a step up into the entryway. (I cannot emphasize enough how slight the "stumble" was.) The bouncer then mumbled something to the effect of "We can't let you in tonight." She and myself, who were the only two not into the bar yet, both thought he was just messing around because of how ludicrous this statement was, so we proceeded to the cash register to pay the $5 cover. The bouncer then grabs her by the shoulders and forces her outside. I called another member of our party and explained the situation. This individual got in touch with a manager and requested their covers be returned so we could all leave. The manager agreed, but did not realize we were a party of eight and instantly regretted his decision. He then pointed at all of us and told his enforcer to "remember all of their faces." Sorry guy, we weren't planning on coming back! I could tell even the guy checking I.D. was uncomfortable because he realized his manager and muscle man made the wrong call. (Thanks for taking some of our heat. We know it wasn't your decision.)
And let's be clear here: this was a case of profiling this individual as a "dumb drunk blonde girl." I am certain that if I had done the same thing, there would have been no issue.
Anyway, we had a great time at Stella's and Eastown Sports Bar! Have fun being the lowest rated bar in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYou have to be a stereotypical hot person to get good service here and they will make it very known when you are not their kind of people. I thought maybe it was in my head at first but after reading other reviews and talking to many others in the community, and in the service industry, my experience has not been unique. They will look you square in the face, then immediately move on to the next person without even giving you a chance to speak. Itās not even a matter of taking too long to order. Iāve worked in this industry for a decade and know to be ready to order when a bartender approaches, especially when itās busy. This was not that. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt the first time this happened to me, but as I found myself there again recently for a friendās birthday, it happened again. Beyond that, so many others I know have faced mistreatment here due to being who they are, assault by bouncers, etc. So itās best just to stay away from this establishment. Grand Rapids is full of lovely and accepting spaces where you donāt have to be a size 0 cookie cutter bombshell to be acknowledged and where you wonāt be harassed because you were ātoo drunkā but really the bouncers were just scared of your non white skin, and where you wonāt have to pay a nonsensical cover that actually wonāt be charged to...
