This is a newer hotel that seems well built and taken care of. It's an interesting location. It's a few blocks from the river and is walking distance from Rosa Park circle, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants. I even walked from the Knickerbocker. There's also a small marketplace nearby but I didn't go there myself.
You have to pay daily for parking. There's plenty of room but you have to drive up a few flights. The garage is on the back of the building on a one way street. It is attached, you can walk right into the lobby on the second floor. There's a loading lane out front for check in.
There is a pool in the basement, it is narrow and no hot tub. There is a small workout room.
The lobby is on the second floor, where there is a bar with limited options, a common area, and a kitchen for the complimentary breakfast. They appear to not use powdered eggs, which is a bonus.
Pets are allowed and they seem to clean after them well because there isn't a pet smell at all. There is not really grass around for pets to go to the bathroom though. My dog normally doesn't go on pavement but did a few times, or in the wood chips around the trees. We did walk down to the court house lawn a few times too.
The rooms were clean and well stocked, which are usually the main things I look for since I don't tend to spend a lot of time in my hotel when I travel. The TV channels are very limited and there was no microwave.
Last thing worth mentioning is the hyper security. You need to scan your card twice to get into the main doors. You have to scan it before you go to your floor in the elevator. To get into the hall and then the rooms where the pool and gym are. And you scan to get in and out of the parking garage.
Overall, this is a fine place to stay. I wish I could give it a 3.5. I liked it well enough, it has the main amenities, and It met my expectations which makes it a 3, but I'll not go out of my way to stay there again so can't really give it a 4. A conference paid for 2 of my 3 nights. If they book me there again in the future I won't be upset.
I guess I'd say the cons for me is parking, I always felt like I was waiting for an elevator - there's only two and they're not the fastest, and then it just felt like it was missing a few things like the small pool, no hot tub, no microwave, and basic cable. It's a nice location but unlike hotels a few blocks over you don't have a great view. Add in that is a little bit more costly given those...
Read moreAbsolute perfection! Beautiful, modern downtown hotel in the heart of Grand Rapids. Too bad every hotel experience can't be as enjoyable and pleasant as my one night stay in this excellent Hyatt Place Hotel. To begin with, the hotel staff associates are absolutely fantastic! It is so very rare to find such a genuine, caring people whom truly care about your guest experience. The hotel facility itself is gorgeous. Located in downtown Grand Rapids offering a superb, convenient accessible location for numerous events, entertainment, shopping and dining options. The hotel itself is approximately 5 years old, but still looks and feels brand new. The lobby, registration desk, convenience market, breakfast room area, restaurant and bar are located on the second floor, adjacent the parking garage. This common area offers lots of conversation space in an open, modern atmosphere. The most amazing feature in this area is the exquisite floor to ceiling windows! Visiting this area makes you feel as if you're truly a part of the city, not just simply visiting. The awesome, amazing large floor to ceiling windows continue to the guestrooms. I was lucky to be assigned a corner room, which included additional windows!! My guestroom was spacious and bright. Very modern decor and comfortable features. My guestroom included a very comfortable queen size bed, cozy sofa lounge seating, work desk, large flat screen TV, mini refrigerator and really cool electronic controlled window blinds and shades (no old fashioned curtains to deal with!!). My stay was a short one night, so I didn't explore the surrounding neighborhood. However, the neighborhood appeared safe and interesting. I hope to return and do more neighborhood exploration. Due to the colder weather and short duration of my visit, I chose to grab dinner at the hotel. Excellent choice! The service was efficient and excellent! The Chef prepared an amazing, delicious hamburger and fries for me. Served hot and fresh, I really enjoyed my dinner and really appreciated the amazing, personalized service! The Hyatt Place is an awesome, immaculate and friendly hotel! If you require accommodations in downtown Grand Rapids, I highly and strongly recommend this...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for a wedding. The location is great it’s right downtown a cute little market across the street, a restaurant bar (open until 2). It’s also located by other restaurants and coffee shops. The parking lot was a little bit difficult to understand.
Also make sure they ask you about where you are parking so you can get the hotel rate. I wish they just had someone directed you to the parking lot.
Being that the hotel is downtown it can get at night and even during the day a little wild from the bars but also lots of people walk the street at night , (homeless + drug users) . Make sure you double check the areas where the bars restaurants are located bc some spots are pretty nice during the day but not at night.
Security is great five stars you have to use your room key for everything enter exit elevators all of it. Also love that it’s dog friendly , I want to bring my pups next time. They do charge an additional fee for that.
The staff is so friendly but I think they get understaffed at times so it wasn’t that they weren’t serving or being friendly or assisting customers they just didn’t have enough staff, especially on the weekend should have more available staff especially when wedding parties are in time.
I do wish our room was cleaned or we were asked. They also do not have room service. They do have a very nice fitness room and a pool (indoor). The water pressure in the shower isn’t that strong, and the tv doesn’t have available streaming services. The closet did not smell that great.
It is a social city for drinking so you can ask for a cup and keep going. Which I thought was pretty cool. I am a Hyatt rewards member and was able at no charge to extend my check out.
Complimentary breakfast that I did not get to try because I did not get up in time.
It’s very nice, it’s worth the price but if you book prior you get a lower rate. Everything was almost perfect except a couple minor tweaks.
Thank you Hyatt !! We will be back...
