I found this place thanks to another Google Reviewer, so thank you! I really liked the Mudpenny, only some minor quirks. I has the Muddy Cristo for brunch, it tasted wonderful and was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. My only issue was that it was served with a side of cold syrup, which was an unpleasant starkness to such a warm and delightfully created breakfast dish. If you order this, and you should, ask to have the syrup served warm. Other issue practical issue with this dish is that it was served on a fairly small plate that was fine, until I wanted to pick up my book and read. The small plate left my fork wanting to jump off onto the table. Quirky feedback, right? But who wants to grab their fork off the table... The atmosphere here is great, it's hot a great vibe and it's clearly a local favorite. I got here at about 1100 am on a Friday at the place was buzzing - which tells me it's a favorite of many. Next time in Grand Rapids I'll be back to enjoy another lovely breakfast for sure.

Very thoughtful, comfortable, and efficient business. We had a really positive experience overall and will definitely be coming back next time we’re in town! Recommend for vegans, vegetarians, folks who are gluten-free, and anyone who wants good food, coffee and conversation or a pleasant workspace. Delicious food: My partner is vegetarian and got the brunch wrap. I’m vegan and got the resolution. Both were delicious and filling. Also the brown sugar coffee was SO good. Cozy, calming atmosphere: Good music at a good volume for both conversation and working on your laptop. Good natural light. Very clean. Efficient: We had the perfect amount of interaction with our waiter. Food and drinks came quickly. We paid through a QR code on the receipt. Bonuses: Gender neutral bathroom had a changing table stocked with wipes and diapers. Also loved that they leaned into the “penny” theme.

MudPenney is one of those places that consistently delivers with their main thing. In other words, I’ve had espressos, cortados, lattes, and pour overs, and they do a great job time and again with their coffee. The only time I remember not being thrilled was with a specialty drink that had really intense flavoring; some of those can be pretty sweet. But sometimes that’s what you’re going for I suppose! Their food is also quite good. Can feel on the pricier side sometimes. Their space is really attractive, and their staff has been consistently friendly. If you’re going in just for a quick coffee, they have area inside the front entrance that is small but never too busy, as their main draw is the larger cafe side where you can order food for breakfast and lunch and is a great place to meet up with others.

After several recommendations saying go to this place, I am now doubting the judgement of those people. The only star is for our server (can’t remember her name but she’s new to the area), who was polite and professional. My mom was so excited to go to a vegetarian friendly place. Their milk steamer broke after my mom’s latte so mine came out iced after like 20 mins. My mom tried to order a dish and they were apparently out of all vegetables. Well, they had them, but didn’t have them prepped or care to for an order. I am in the service industry so I know how these things go. It’s not like you have to throw them in the oven for a couple hours for a side of uncooked vegetables. After they were out of her first 3 choices, we had to get creative. She tried to get a dish but sub the meat protein for tofu from another dish. The server checked and the chef said no. They pushed a tofu curry salad wrap from their catering menu they must have had laying around. She reluctantly got that and my gosh. A little s&p can go a long way. It was curry in color only. The equivalent of throwing mayo on something and calling it a salad. My BLT on naan was mids, maybe beasters at best. The bacon was so dried out, I almost rubbed some cocoa butter on it. Best thing about this place was the Duke’s mayo. I can’t believe people swear by this place. I would like to extend an invitation to let me show you how lunch service should be ran. Please take me up on it, the...

Absolutely welcoming place in a beautiful space with delicious, fresh food! Wow! I just went to Mudpenny for the first time and I will definitely be going back. Parking is so easy, right on the street next to the building. I walked in around 11:45 to get take out lunch. The woman at the counter was immediately warm and friendly and welcomed me in. This space is just beauitful. It is simple and airy and just has a really calm vibe to it. I ordered the 'Grapefruit Greens Salad' which has spring mix, arugula, fresh Bay Of Fundy salmon, grapefruit segments, walnuts, feta, lemon thyme vinaigrette. The salmon was cooked to order but I only waited less than 10 minutes for my food to be ready. I love that they serve to-go food in a certified compostable container. I also ordered a peppermint tea latte which the to-go cup and lid is made of certified compostable material as well. My salad is AWESOME. The salmon is so delicioius and simple. It has delicious crunchy grill marks and delicious seasoning and it is just really enjoyable. The spring mix is fresh and I love the mixture of grapefruit segments with the feta and walnuts. Wow! I will totally try to re-create this salad at home. The Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette is SO FRESH tasting. I want to know their recipe for this! My salad cost $11.49 which I think is very reasonable for the fresh ingredients and decent size piece of fresh salmon. I WILL be...
