Breakout Games — Attraction in Columbus

I sent my comments to Breakout Columbus prior to posting but received no response. We had a party of 6 that attempted to break out of the Do Not Disturb room.

Unfortunately, we did not have the experience that we had hoped.

1. The website said to get there 15 minutes early, but when we arrived the sign on the door said 10 minutes. Even though the staff were waiting inside with no one else in the waiting room, they made us stand outside in the freezing cold for over five minutes before letting us in. Update your website!

2. There was an issue with the toilet which no one that worked there seemed to care about. We spoke to the person at the front desk as well as our game master. No one apologized or even indicated the issue would be addressed. Sewage was backing up through the drain in the floor. We were unable to use the bathroom while there. Please note this is an issue the Health Dept would likely close their facilities for as being unsanitary!

3. Finally, our experience in the actual breakout room was a disappointment. We read the reviews online and were excited to have an engaging game master that would keep us excited and help guide us. This was the first time any of us had ever done a break out room. I would not recommend Alex for any first timers or really anyone that wants a guide that is engaging. She was monotone and unenthusiastic. When we asked for clues or had questions, it felt like she must be browsing on her phone as she took a beat to respond. She seemed annoyed at times when we asked for clarification on her clues and even snapped at my 13-yr old niece at one point. We were not able to break out of the room, and while we certainly don't fault her, I would recommend a little more direction to first timers. I imagine the goal would be for repeat customers. Given the experience we had and the fact that none of us really enjoyed it much, I can't imagine we would return.

We chose this escape room based on the overwhelming number of good reviews. However, it turns out to be a disappointment. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and engaging escape room experience.

To start with, the staff were not friendly. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that they didn’t care about providing a positive experience. When we asked for help, they make us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. It was really disappointing to see such a lack of enthusiasm.

As for the puzzles, they were some of the worst I’ve encountered in any escape room. The design was sloppy and uninspired, with many of the puzzles either malfunctioning or just plain boring.

On top of that, the instructions provided were incredibly unclear. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out what we were even supposed to do, which sucked all the fun out of the experience. It felt like the room was designed to confuse rather than challenge, and not in a good way.

Overall, I would strongly advise against wasting your time and money here. There are far better...

I think our experience was unusual, given the amount of positive reviews and happy customers i saw when looking this place up. We did the Haunted Mansion (or similar) Room, and it was both overwhelming and boring, if both can be true. I hate being negative especially with businesses like these who have a lot of love poured into them, but this room in particular was only a series of padlocks. Padlocks upon padlocks upon padlocks. Find these numbers find these letters find these numbers find these letters. It may have simply been an issue of skill, perhaps i just had an off day, in which case by all means dismiss my words. All i can say is that this was not a good escape room experience for me and my group, and i don't forsee trying it again for that price.
