Three stars overall because they were open the Friday after Thanksgiving, and because the food was somewhat edible. The service though. ¡Dios mío! I wanted a takeout snack. I ordered a rice and beans side with cheese, and some green salsa. I was charged for the salsa, and for using a card (!) but guess what wasn't in the bag when I got home! Yup, they forgot the salsa. This could have something to do with the server being distracted by a daytime soap ON HER PHONE while packaging my order. Not joking. Is it so hard to mute the phone when there are customers in your restaurant?? So I dug into the rice, thinking maybe the flavor would cover for the omission of my salsa. Well, if you are a die-hard salt fan, the rice will please you. The beans, not so much. They have kind of a melted milkshake consistency. I can't say I was shocked. Malecón was a go-to lunch favorite of mine for years. And then something happened. The service has been an issue on my last few visits. And I have finally learned my lesson. You can't throw a rock in GP without hitting a Mexican restaurant, and the one you hit is probably better than...
Read moreI ordered two Chile Rellano combination plates to go. They were priced $4 more (per plate) than the online menu. They were ready within 15 mins. Began eating and both rellanos were undercooked. Cheese was a weird unmelted brick in the pepper. The pepper was still crunchy as it wasn’t cooked through and everything was only slightly warm. Then it tasted rancid. My partner said his tasted bad too. Neither of us could finish the food. We will usually eat anything. We ate the rice and beans. So I called the restaurant just to let them know to double check their rellanos so no one else had a bad experience and the waitress wanted to argue with me and deny my experience. Soooooooo…… lol I paid $30 for some rice and beans and to have a girl gaslight me 😂 I’ll pass. Btw… I’ve taken a Chile rellano tour of the entire western United States… this was the worst rellano I...
Read moreJust had (for breakfast) a chili relleno burrito with Al Pastor added. WOW! What a great flavor combo! El Malecon Grill & Cantina is a great little place in Grants Pass to get authentic tasting Mexican food. We've had breakfast burritos with bacon that are so tasty. We've tasted all their tacos and they are all delicious (but the chicken tacos need some salsa for sure). Their salsas are spicy and tasty and compliment the food nicely. They also have a delish avocado sauce. Carolina, the gal that is always our server is adorable and has a great sense of humor. They even have a full bar but I've yet to get a cocktail there. The bonus is that they also have donuts since they used to be Caveman Donuts before becoming Malecon Grill and Cantina. Glad we live close...makes it easy to grab...
