Since wife had been gracious and cooked all week figured we would go enjoy dinner out but still wanted home cook'n or kinda close to it. Cotton Patch is a place that offers all the traditional comfort foods that mom would cook if poured from a can or box. Now some of the items like their mashed taters and broccoli cheese rice casserole maybe from scratch and pretty tasty. Tonight we were in he mood to start with full order of the cheddar/bacon fries (had a coupon for freebie) so that is why we went full order instead of 1/2 which is are normal. It is usually plenty for 3 of us plus those HOT fresh yeast rolls. But tonight I would only eat 1/2 of one, that was using all of my New Year's resolution power. My wife was really good she ordered the grilled bar-b-que chicken salad with dressing on the side which was great for her cause there was more than enough bar-b-que sauce for the salad and she moved the tortilla strips over to the side didn't mean she didn't eat a few cause she loves the crunch but she did try and be mindful of her "free form meal plan" you folks in WW know what I mean. Now me on the other hand I cut out a full roll so that I could have the catfish and shrimp combo. They have a 4 piece or 8 piece shrimp meal or so I thought but what they really mean is if you order the 4 piece shrimp you get 2 pieces of catfish. If you order the 8 piece shrimp you get 4 pieces of catfish so keep that in mind its either the 1/2 order or full order. I went 1/2 FRIED yea regretted it later could have gone blackened might have had more flavor. Yea, I am eluding to saying the catfish was really lacking the cornmeal topping was light and alright but when you peeled it away the fish really had no flavor kind of disappointing. Now I mentioned this is 1/2 portion but the meal comes with fries and 2 additional sides so you will get more than enough food. I swapped out my other 2 sides for salad and I was plenty full by the end. I actually left the fries from my plate..(had plenty with bacon/cheddar..YUMMO). One other note our waitress Loren was very nice and attentive our water glasses never got empty and she had a very pleasant smile. The only issue was she speaks very softly so might have to has her to repeat a couple of time...NO I am not hard of hearing no matter what my wife says..all in all it was good night and...
Read moreWe have patrons to this particular Cotton Patch for over five years and have never had a issue until our last two visits. On one visit my wife ordered a baked potato that was stone cold when it was served. When we asked for a replacement we were told that they were out of potato's...and no adjustment to the bill. Disappointing!...they could have said something when we first ordered and she could changed her order. On our last visit I ordered a grill chicken breast off of the 'Lighter Side" which stated that it was served on Seasoned Rice. I asked the waitress if they had Brown Rice and could I swap for Brown Rice. She told me "sure, no problem". There was a problem however when the meal was served (by a different waitress) it had Seasoned Rice...and the original waitress seem to have disappeared. I was finally able to waive down a second waitress who told me they didn't have Brown Rice. The second waitress apologized and offered to get me something else, but by that time my wife was already half way through her meal. If I was to get something else I would be there way beyond the time my wife was finished and ready to go. Still no sign of our original waitress...hope she wasn't taken hostage. The second waitress finally re-filled my tea glass because the first waitress was now MIA!!! Our original waitress finally re-appeared so as to bring us the check...gotta have that tip!!! My wife paid the bill and gave the young lady a tip despite serve that was less than par. My wife wouldn't let me ask the original waitress why she didn't inform us that Brown Rice was not available at the time we ordered....that would have been the proper thing to do!! Let's try...
Read moreI had the chicken fried steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas. Coffee was my beverage in anticipation of my peach cobbler and ice cream, which I canceled. More on that shortly. The young server was friendly, did a good job but obviously new, and needs more experience. For instance, he offered me the check before I saw the dessert. Manager needs to tie up the training loose ends. The chicken fried steak was good, not great, a bit chewy in spots. Black eyed peas and potatoes were better. Coffee was OK. Now about the dessert. After reminding my server about it, a few minutes later he came back and informed me the house is out of ice cream. I therefore canceled the dessert because peach cobbler requires ice cream. Also I was informed the price makes no difference, and no, I won't let the house rip me off like that. Again the server did a good job, but the management at the Hall Johnson Cotton Patch is questionable. Needs to do a better job on inventory. It's unacceptable for a customer to be informed the house is out of something well into the meal. I noticed the other reviewers' concerns in this thread. Instead of the typical canned responses, someone needs to audit this location and fix the nagging issues. Right now, this Cotton Patch is in time out. I'll try it again sometime...
