Farina’s is located in the heart of historic downtown Grapevine. It is housed in a pre-World War I building which offers a lot of charm. Upon entering, the space may be small but there are plenty of overflow spaces including a party room and a large, partially shaded patio in the back.
On Saturday and Sunday, Farina’s is open for brunch from 10-1. Having never sampled their brunch offerings, we made a recent trip only to have a most underwhelming experience.
I found it interestingly strange that there were no other guests dining when we were there. We arrived right at 10 am. We were greeted by a friendly young woman upon entering and seated promptly.
We found the brunch menu to be quite short, which did not bother us. It is interesting, however, that the other neighboring restaurants on Main Street that serve brunch have many other offerings.
We ordered a raspberry mimosa. Neither of us had ever had raspberry in our champagne. Thinking it might be from raspberry puree, the server brought out two glasses of champagne and one glass of raspberry lemonade. Any connoisseur of mimosas and most mixologists and barkeepers know this should never be an offering. Farina’s needs to rethink their mimosa choices and be in better alignment with other competitive restaurants who offer better choices. And more importantly, the champagne that was served was subpar. It lacked flavor and tasted a little flat. For a restaurant that touts itself as a winery, the mark was truly missed at this juncture.
The food that was ordered was much to our surprise lacking in flavor as well as presentation. The Caprese toast was nothing more than a crustini that was quite small and seemed more like a margherita pizza. The bacon was slightly burned. The chilequiles was unlike any other that we had ever tasted before - and not in a good way. If you order this dish, be prepared for it to have mozzarella cheese and spaghetti sauce instead of what you might be more used to, which is normally a Mexican dish. It was served on a plate instead of in a bowl as it normally is in most places. The taste was very strange and subpar at best. The ground meat that was added, did not seem freshly prepared, but seemed more like a prepackaged meat that was warmed and placed in the dish. When it arrived to the table, the dish was not hot.
Overall, I think this could be a great little place for brunch, but there definitely needs to be several changes in order for Farina’s to achieve such notoriety. It definitely has potential, but it also has a way to go if it wants to truly match the competition...
Read moreWhat a disappointment! EVERY year, my parents come in town and we have made it an annual tradition with family to spend our Christmas celebration at Farina's and Downtown Grapevine. I called a couple weeks prior to make sure we could lock in a table in the super decorated and festive private room. I let the girl know we eat in the same place every year and set it for 5:30. She said we could be in the special room with no issues. Upon arrival, we were poorly greeted by a brunette woman that has terrible customer service. We arrived 50 minutes early because my 1 and 3 year olds were hungry so we just wanted to check to see if the table was ready. She informed us a private party had the room so it wouldn't be ready until 5:30... Understandable. We hung out and waited until the last couple lingering people walked out. At 5:00, the room was empty so we let the hostess know that we were ready whenever they were for us to at least sit down. She said they needed to make sure it was cleaned up even though all tables are completely empty. About 10 minutes later, she walked out holding her coat and was gone. I went to check the room we requested and it was dark so I asked a waitress if we could sit down... she said they will not be seating anyone in that room and it is closed. I told her we have been waiting for 30 minutes already because the other girl said we had to wait for it to clear, plus had a reservation. She said, "Oh well she's new and doesn't know... that's why she left." We asked if we could please sit in there because we called ahead and it's our annual tradition and she said no. So after waiting over 30 minutes for nothing, we had to try to go somewhere else and everything was at least a 45 minute wait. With starving children, we didn't have the option to wait that long so we had to leave our Grapevine tradition and drive somewhere that we could find with a table. We are so sad that a tradition we wanted to have forever had to come to an end. Also, the special Christmas room was barely decorated like other years. Maybe the owners are new or something but everything, including the customer service, was awful! We will miss the old...
Read morePizza review only, chef review. Pizza on the vine? Definitely try them out! All pizzerias that want to be remembered must pass the taste tests on sauce, cheese, crust and variety of available toppings or else it's RIP, rest in pepperoni. Farinas on main St in Grapevine does just that. While they won't be winning any national awards, they will please your tastebuds and your wallets with what they bring to the table and that's plenty fine for everyone but the biggest Pizza snobs. The spaghetti Pizza has a bit of an identity crisis which makes one question the direction the chef wants the menu to go in. Keep it simple, offer quality choices and always fresh ingredients you learn in culinary school. Their "build your own Pizza" puts you in the driver's seat and the quality of those choices such as basil or sun dried tomato pesto, fresh tomatoes basil and assortment of proteins and olives assures your tastebuds a meal you won't regret. Their crust is simple and while not thin thin, it fits Flatbread criteria and is delicious! We are in Texas so things tend to be more on the salty side so I always reccomend doing family style and getting a few different pizza combinations and then include a margarita Pizza for clean, simple, nearly pallet cleansing qualities. We had Greek salads with the items and they served their purpose, nothing unqie or bold. So I can't rightfully give more stars but I wouldn't give any less, fairs fair. I got a salad that I'd expect from any Pizza place. No more no less. Anyhow I review restaurants and now carry 11 million views, so to all my viewers, if youre ever in Grapevine TX and want quick, good, simple Flatbread pizza- Farinas is a great option! 4 stars!
Additional notes-
Friendly staff, attentive and well kept. Decor- par for other places on main street Price for product is correct and for the demographic, it's cheaper than expected. There's wine and live music!
