Sooo sad. I just took my kids and my 6 year old was so looking forward to the beloved play area upstairs since itās been a while, and he was SO disappointed that theyāve gotten rid of the whole left side of the upstairs and replaced it with bookshelves. He was literally in tears that all the big stuffed animals and train table was gone and my daughter loved the big ice cream cart and kitchen sets and now thereās just a craft table and a couple bins of toys. Thankfully they still have the little nook downstairs that we played a game in to help redeem our visit but I also didnāt see the Narnia or Little House on the Prairie classic book set gifts anymore like the tea towels that my daughter loved. And then I had to be wary in the adult section because I saw a couple things for instance a bookmark with a surprised looking Jesus that said, āIs that smut?ā and my daughter asked me what that means and if thatās a bad word. Why do I have to explain this in a family bookstore called Talking Animals? Also saw some new LGBTQ+ stuff. Sooo disappointing as this was their favorite bookstore around and always stopped in here after Breadhaus, but not sure we will be back sadly because we loved...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting from out of town and stopped in to browse the childrenās book section and look for some stickers. The staff were incredibly kindāthey even shared a few stickers from their personal stash for my daughter. They were super cool princess stickers, and she absolutely loved them. I also found two great books that she has had us read to her for a week straight.
While I was later browsing the horror section, Emmalie approached me. Iām not great at small talk, but Iām so glad our paths crossed. She recommended several books, and I ended up leaving with Maeve Fly by CJ Leede. What a wild, amazing read. In that brief moment, I felt like Iād found a kindred spiritāsomeone who truly gets the love of horror books. Every bookstore needs an Emmalie.
Now I just need another excuse to make the four-hour trip back.
Thank you,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is absolutely wonderful. They have a good selection of fictional books and kids books as well as a small book nook hideout for anyone who wants to get comfy and read for a little while. There's some sofas to sit and read downstairs and There's a kids play area upstairs where adults can also spend time and hang out (complimentary coffee and tea too). Most of the books upstairs are on discount and extra kids books, you can take the time to look around and find anything you'd like. There's also a chess set for anyone who wants to relax and play chess. I come here with friends every grapevine festival and it's continued to be such a charming/welcoming space to rest at. The employees have always been welcoming and friendly, they have light pop music playing in the background and a bathroom that is...
