My wife wanted to have a nice dinner out for Christmas Eve,and as circumstances would have it this year, there was just a small group of four for the Eve, with our two adult daughters, so she made reservations, and we were looking forward to an evening at Perry's. While we have ordered takeout of the Friday special a few times we had not had the pleasure dining at Perry's yet. We didn't realize initially that the menu was Prix Fixe as it often is on holidays, which at $79 + per person is a bit of a hefty price for one meal, however, it includes starter, entree, and dessert, which should be some of the finest food that can be served, right ? On the website it stated there were also limited regular menu items available. When we inquired about this we were told that wasn't the case. I don't typically prefer a set menu at most places because in my experience it's usually not as good as you would normally have. Anyway, on to the meal and experience. First, it was very loud. But, they were busy and evry table full. Second, however, in my opinion, the tables are too close. When you have to practically shout to have conversation this is not what I epect when at nice place for dinner, and "fine dining". Now, for the food. When they bring the pork chop to the table, at tableside, they carve it into smaller portions, separating the bones, and most of the meat, which is certainly understandable as it's a rather large serving and most people wouldn't know what to do with it. My problem is the way it's done. Our server at least, did not carve the meat with any class, elegance, or in delicate way. Instead, it was hacked into 5 or 6 pieces, and while he was explaining what each portion was, and holding it in the air, dropped a large piece once, which caused a splatter. This process is unappetizing. I watched a few others while waiting and it wasn't much better. They need to train the servers to handle the food in a professional way, and handle it with class, respecting the food that the patron is about to eat. Meanwhile, because the potatoes and the few slivers of veggies are sitting on another small plate, were cold when served. Our daughter's ordered filets which apparently were very good of which I have no doubt. However, for my wife and I having ordered the "Signature Pork Chop" we were a little underwhelmed. The pork chop itself tasted great, but overall certainly not worth the price of the meal, at $79 with cold sides. Cold mashed potatoes and a few veggies for $79. As usual Prix Prixe means less than great, but costs more. And, just to mention, before 6 PM the price was $ 69. Does the cost of serving food suddenly go up after dark ?? It's a packed house, very busy, with people ordering multiple drinks so you should gouge the customers ? Would we go to Perry's again ? Maybe, but definitely not on a Prix Fixe night. The service was good except for the mandhandling of pork chops. My wife and were looking for a fine dining experience and that didn't happen. The total bill was $450 for our far less than great experience. ...
Read moreWe went on Christmas Eve for my sons birthday. This was a very special occasion for us. We reserved days before. I let know the hostess it’s his birthday upon arrival. They give us a table all the way back in the corner. Then they inform us it’s a fixed price menu. They should have let us know when we reserved so we could go somewhere else. I don’t eat that much, much less at 9pm. I start noticing there’s a stream of cold air pouring on top of me. I call the waiter he ignores me. I had to get up from the table, walk all the way back to the entrance, a considerable distance, and tell the hostess they gave us a table where the air conditioner directly pours the old air. And it’s a very cold day. When I get back to the table a lady was taking care of the issue and they moved us to another table. I have to say, they had much better tables open when we arrived. They could have simply given us a decent not cold air pouring table from the beginning because it’s not nice to be moving around specially when you are celebrating a birthday and it’s under serving that you go to a very expensive restaurant to have a good time and you come to have to do this. It’s unacceptable. It made my son uncomfortable too. Well, then I ordered a coke. The server brought me a very small glass half of it ice. It didn’t last long, food came and it wasn’t until after I almost finished that the waiter remember he was waiting on us and got me more. So I went through all my meal without my drink. The filet blue I ordered as appetizer was not good at all. You get better food at any $20 per person restaurant. The pork chop was good but I found it a bit undercooked. Since it was a fixed price menu ($80.00)we had to order from select dishes and it included dessert. Since we ordered at the beginning we ordered the 3 dessert one, and I specially thought that from what they offered it was the only one that interested me and that for no reason would I want the pumpkin cheesecake. Well, guess what we got? Pumpkin cheesecake. Unacceptable that they force a menu in you of $80 dollars and they don’t even have the dessert you ordered from what they forced you to order. And it doesn’t stop there. The bill came and I put a credit card. It was declined (it’s Christmas). The waiter comes and in a very disrespectful voice and attitude, like a shaming tone, tells me. I mean, this is supposed to be a top of the notch restaurant yet you get better attention at any 12 dollar per person place. Incredible. Of course I gave him another card that took care of the bill. For me it was a big disappointment, it’s the most important day of the year for me and this restaurant just didn’t make it. Much better choice would have been Dino’s at Main Street as we have done other Christmas Eves before, where everything was perfect and the waiters are outstanding and caring, and you get taken care of as if you were part of the family. Plus it’s owned by the chef, and not a chain. But the Perry choice was my sons for it seems to be popular among youngsters. Also, no detail for my...
Read moreNever has a restaurant been so hyped and disappointed me so miserably. We planned a special Thanksgiving family dinner for 15, spanning several families to include a very elderly gentleman. Upon our prompt 3:30pm arrival was told our table was ready but then forced to wait at least ten minutes in the reception area. It was a bit awkward as we clogged the doorway looking like idiots. Were finally seated and my first impression of the place walking through the dining area to our back table was a high class Cracker Barrel. Very packed- very crowded. Nothing like getting stared at walking to your table!
I get we were a large party, and the single waiter worked his tail off, but maybe assign a second waiter??? LONG lag times between greeting, drink service, drink arrival, food order, food arrival etc. Seriously, for a high priced joint you'd expect SOME description of the menu but to assign one waiter to do so is just not smart. So we did some sitting around idly. Normally not a huge problem but our party had a 92 year old gentleman and a five year old toddler.
There was no beer on the menu to which the waiter replied "oh we have a beer list it's just not on the regular or Thanksgiving menu." So we played 20 questions ordering and I figured Mich Ultra was a sure bet.
The food was alright, tasty but not $$$ tasty. I ordered the Pork Chops and received a separate salad which was basically lettuce drowned in Vinaigrette and a huge slab of meat befitting Fred Flintstone. A young kid showed up for the presentation doing the benihana knives behind the back routine as he explained the history of the pork slab. That was funny and broke the mood.
We had a good time. Nice family visit. But the atmosphere was sidetracked at the end of the meal when the manager herself came over and matter-of-factly stated that the restaurant would do nothing to help us divide the bill into at least three payment sections. I mean, ok I guess. We're a party of 15 I get it. But if you can't accommodate large parties then don't book them. Our request was not unreasonable in fact many restaurants and wait staffs do it. So we started to play the "who had what, what's your Venmo?" game. I was mortified embarrassed. I'm particularly peeved because I asked dude before we ordered for help with this and he was agreeable. I guess that's why manager lady showed up.
Anyway, my two cents- basically a high priced Cracker Barrel that can't accommodate large parties. I mean, I get large parties are a pain in the rear but we dropped almost$1500!!! And they also gouged us a 3% service fee for using a credit card on top of the auto 18% tip for large parties (actually a bad deal for the waiter had he split the tab). As if we had a choice lol. Hard pass next time!...
