This was our first time eating at Humpty Dumpty. The staff and our waitress were all very friendly and really great!
First of all, I really like their coffee! I found the coffee to be EXCELLENT.
I ordered the Denver Omelette with additional cheddar for the outside of the omelet as well as inside. I also paid the 45 cents extra for sour cream.
The sour cream was generously spread on top of Omelette. There was a very light sprinkle of unmelted shredded "cheddar cheese" on top of omelet under the sour cream.
Something didn't taste right about the omelet. I think either the sour cream was ultra low fat or "non-dairy" (??!!) sour cream or else the shredded cheddar cheese was low fat or artificial "cheese product." I do NOT know this for certain as I obviously didn't see the packages for either one.
I tried scraping the sour cream off the top of the omelet, but was unable to get enough of it off to be sure whether the odd taste was the sour cream or not. Otherwise the omelet was fluffy, the ham was delicious and it could have been really good if not for the odd taste.
The country potatoes came with plenty of onions and bell peppers. The potatoes were perfectly browned but the onions were practically raw and thus were very strong tasting and gave me terrible onion breath. I know Californians prefer their veggies crisp - but raw is just too much of a good thing. They also lacked any seasoning whatsoever.
I didn't complain because although we checked online for the restaurant's hours which said they closed at 4pm and came in around 2:30pm - we soon noticed almost all the other diners were gone by 3pm and we had barely started on our food. We overheard the last customer other than ourselves asking were they closing early.
Evidently, the inside closes at 3pm, their drive-thru (which we hadn't even noticed) is open until 4pm. Although none of the staff said anything to us or so much as implied we were unwelcome to stay (they were perfectly polite and friendly) we felt bad for keeping our waitress late - so since I didn't really like my omelet anyway, I left most of it behind...
Read moreI had hopes for this place...being from out of town. I checked the ratings before we came here. My mom just turned 69 and we took her on a trip, there were four of us. Unfortunately, it wasn't meeting a standard I had set in my mind for a birthday breakfast. (We came here mid November) so not long ago. First, NO ONE greeted us as we came in to explain their process. They were super busy with customers waiting in every nook and cranny-I would say a good sign! But, as I noticed a "sign-in paper" on a tiny shelf and my husband walked up to a different counter to figure things out during their chaos and lack of help, other customers who also didn't know what to do were giving wrong information to us as if they knew what to do, as well as crossing our name off the list that we wrote in as we arrived. (And before you say anything, Yep, I watched them do it and had to rewrite it in) Staff members, you can do better! Had we not done all that we did, we could have never been seated and eaten. This is a span of 15 mins after arriving. That's just isn't an experience that should happen on a birthday. I have never had that. Then, the staff who walked us back to our table, took a "half-a**'d" drink order, forgot half of it and we had to ask someone else. By the time the first person realized it she said, " oh well". Then set down our stuff. The actual waitress who helped ua WAS SUPER NICE and tried everything for a better experience. I don't remember her name. (She was the prego one) Great job!! Food was ok, but I'm not certain I'll eat there again. Maybe in a few months or so I'll try again....hopefully by then a better system is in place. I ONLY gave 4 stars because of the super nice ladtly that ultimately became our waitress. If she hadn't, I likely would have given 1 star and...
Read moreDefinitely for family and older people. Good hamager nice bun. Food was all around Good. Only thing. 2 half and half for your coffee. Rest was non creamer. Girl would not bring anymore out. So she wouldn't give anymore coffee. No coffee no cream needed. Very busy, 25 minutes to seat. 10 more to get table wiped down. The order. So 1 hr total from time we got threw the door to order. Busy. When you were seated at the door. THE light above us had spiders. 3 fell to the ground. Yuck. And on the grease. They just need their cleaning crew do the work they get paid to do in general. It's a fairly new place to be dirty. One thing I thought strange was if you USE A CREDIT CARD, THEY CHARGE YOU LIKE THE GASS STATION DOES. that's just doesn't sit well. Please tell us first I had cash. So they charged me for a credit card charge. I used the card instead. But payed cash for tip. Girl said otherwise they tax her also and she has to split it with everyone. Guess this is the new way. But overall still give a 5. For Grass Valley, this place gives you good food, fair price. Not a dot on your plate for 25.00 a...
