My hubby and I stumbled upon this place while exploring old town Grass Valley. The outside building was inviting us in. (The pics online don't do justice to how it looks now) You are met with planters filled with fresh herbs as you walk up the door and colorful patio outside sitting tables. The name at first made us a tad curious as the sound of the name has you pre judging that it is going to be a gastric nightmare after you indulge and eat. However, if you know the meaning of the word, you know that it means quite the opposite. The name means the art or science of good eating, encompassing the selection, preparation, presentation, and enjoyment of food. It also includes the study of food and culture, culinary customs, and the cooking styles of particular regions. Well, do not let the name put you off. I am so glad we ventured inside. Once my hubby saw babaganoush and baklava and other Armenian type dishes on menu, we had to eat. Wonderful atmosphere. It's like being in your own world. Another country. Deliciousness in every bite no matter what we ordered. We had a Mediterranean salad, dolmades and a pizza with baklava as dessert. I can't recall the name of the pizza right now. Georgie the owner and creator of these fabulous dishes is absolutely amazing and accommodating and a delightful host. My only complaint is that he was not going to be open the next day (Monday) so that we could eat lunch again before heading back home north. We will definitely be returning to this place whenever in town. The prices are also very reasonable. Thank you for the experience Gerogie. My stomach left very happy and had absolutely no pre judged post gastric issues of my ideas of the name sound. The only gastric issues I had was that my gastronomic system and insides was left wanting wanting more La Gastronomia delight! See you again...
Read moreMaybe you can't pronounce the name of this place, I cant, but don't let that stop you from checking it out. It's an authentic Italian restaurant and deli using only fresh veggies and Amazing, can I say that again? Amazing meats and cheeses with names I can't say, but even a simple cheese like asiago, takes on an amazing taste when it's aged from Italy. The staff- they know their stuff. Tell them what you're craving and they can whip up something off their genuine Italian menu that'll satisfy the most complex of taste pallets. As if that was not enough, they serve gelato. No, not ice cream but true gelato that is sweet and the tastes explode upon your first spoonful. My favourite is the hazelnut flavor, Nilocce or something like that, just ask for the hazelnut one. The price may be a little high, but when you taste the food, you'll know it's money well spent. This is my favourite restaurant I've tried thus far in Grass Valley. With not a lot of atmosphere to speak of it still creates a intimate feeling that it's you, your date, and a good meal, nothing else in the world. A perfect...
Read moreThis was recommended to us by our AirB&B for being authentic Italian pizza. They were right! Brought back memories of Venice, Rome, and Cinque Terra for us. They use a wood fired oven to start. But the real difference is in the ingredients and especially the cheeses they use. Loved it. I got the Veggie Pizza, which was unlike any veggie pizza I’ve ever gotten. They use sautéed mushrooms instead of plain mushrooms, and grilled marinated red pepper instead of plain red bell peppers. It added so much depth to the flavor. And the cheese they sprinkled over it has tons of flavor. We met one of the owners, Ricardo, who is from an area near Venice. He still has a heavy Italian accent and uses broken English, but he was delightful to talk with. We look forward to going back and getting some fresh uncooked pasta which they sell by the pound, just like neighborhood markets do in Italy! We highly recommend this place for a unique...
