Love the mining museum & the efforts to keep mining history (what the West was built on) alive in Nevada County! The trail is really nice and great for strollers and family walks. It's unfortunate portions of the trail share space with the nearby water treatment facility and are regularly frequented by transients. The creek is beautiful and makes for a really peaceful walk but often garbage can be openly viewed from the trail which is really unfortunate :( Take the lower (dirt) trail for a chance to spy the old steam boiler(?) that washed away during a historic flood year and was deposited downstream in the middle of the creek! Down and out its around 1.4 miles so bring water for the kiddos and some comfortable shoes if taking the trail.
Recently remodeled Cornish pump is back in action at the museum, stop in and check it out! Tons of really awesome history in this really cool old stone building. Great for the...
Read moreFantastic experience at the Northstar Mining Museum. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to answer questions. He even gave us a live demo of several displays, which really brought the history to life. The collection is packed with authentic artifacts—from massive Pelton wheels to historic mining tools, maps, and even old revolvers. Everything is thoughtfully arranged, and the atmosphere inside the old stone building adds to the charm. A must-visit if you're interested in local history or...
Read moreSmall mining museum but very interesting. Nice picnic area, in the works, behind the museum. There are 3 or 4 walking bridges across the fast running creek over to the picnic tables plus a newly made blacktop walking, running, or biking trail that leads to the Raleys Shopping Center. It will be really nice when it's all finished. I've been there several times and have only seen one maybe two people go by while I've been there. I would recommend seeing this mining museum and...
