I grew up on the North West side by Portage Pk. and we used to ride our bikes to Sammies little stand to buy "Gravy Bread" for a quarter. It was French bread dipped in the beef juice it was cheap and we loved it. But when your talking HOT DOGS I might be partial but Sammie's WINS HANDS DOWN! Other joints might have hand cut fries but Sammie's adds an extra condiment that as far as I know no one else adds, no it's NOT KETCHUP. Along with the usual mustard, onions, bright green relish, tomatoes, pickle, sport peppers and celery salt on a poppy seed bun Sammie's adds fresh cucumbers and believe me it makes all the difference in the world. Sammie's is no longer in the city and that's fine cause neither am I so they have several locations that I can still enjoy their dogs at. Give one a try, you'll see the difference. Read moreToday on May 23rd we placed a order and we loyal customers we have been going to eat at the restaurant for a really long time we are really disappointed with the customers service we received today and along with the managers attitude. We saw a couple of people in the restaurant with no masks no protection at all. I as a customer felt uneasy about it so I called the manager to ask why there were people inside the restaurant with no masks because isn't a law now? And when I was on the phone with the manager I asked for his name he said "I will not ask my loyal customers to wear a mask" along with "I have to get my money somehow" I mean he im unemployed I so why is he complaining that shouldnt even be a excuse and he never gave me his name he made it seem like a joke and the customer in front started laughing because he over heard the phone call I stayed calm and I have never seen such disrespect from a business. I shouldn't even give them one star if I could I'd give them none I do this for the safety of others be careful. They have officially lost not only my trust but they have lost a loyal...
Read moreWas in the area looking for lunch and the reviews said this place had good Italian beef...so I stopped. Yep... definitely a good beef samich. Not the best I've had recently but in the top 3 or 4. I must warn you though...if you're looking for that bland beef from that famous hot dog chain, this ain't it. This has good texture, flavorful juice, and a hearty bread that stood up to the mandatory dipping. French fries were great as well. Thick crinkle cuts gave a crispy shell and a potato taste on the inside. They have a beef and a "super" beef. So yes I asked. I must have misunderstood the order taker; I heard it's like two beefs and I saw her gesture with her hands, si I assumed it was a longer beef samich--NOPE it was ACTUALLY two beef samiches. I didn't need two, but I ate them. LOL. If you're a big eater, it's a good call for $2.50 extra. 13 and change out the door with a refill. Need to...
