Having worked in cocktail bars in NYC for some time now, I was highly unimpressed. My friend and I sat at the bar not staff person spoke more than two words to us for the entire time we were there. We weren’t even given water. No one asked us if we were enjoys our drinks. No one wished us farewell as we left. These three things are STANDARD steps of service across the industry that I could be yelled at or even fired for not completing at some of my previous and current jobs. The drinks were average at best, certainly not worth the price point or the amount of time they took to be made. The service and hospitality were abysmal. If a bar is claiming to have a high-end craft cocktail experience yet you’re missing the fundamentals of hospitality, that’s a huge red flag. My favorite thing about sitting at a cocktail bar is talking to staff and learning about the menu and the space, so it’s always disappointing to not be able to do that. The drink ingredients may be in the upper echelon, but without service to match, you risk blending in with the all the other wannabe hip, Death & Co knockoff bars that are a dime a dozen these days.
If it had been busy I would have been more understanding with my critique. Maybe my expectations are higher than average, but I would not recommend this place to a friend, and I actually would actively discourage anyone under the age of 40 from going, especially if you’re outwardly LGBTQ+ presenting like I am. I hate to think that had anything to do with the service, but I certainly felt a lot of uncomfortable stares from other patrons.
All that aside, like I’ve said you can get better bang for your buck almost anywhere, and if you really want a craft cocktail experience I could rattle off about 5-10 locations that can actually do that with great service, the same price point, and you might even having learned a...
Read moreMy spouse and I were very satisfied with our visit to Moon Cloud where we sat out front on the sidewalk. I would say this is a meal to remember. No doubt, we will be back with friends. Our server named Apryl was perfect in every way: friendly, knowledgeable, timely, and respectful.
The drinks were amazing: Bladerunner & The Ruby Slipper. Presentation was spot on: both glassware & large ice cube.
The Tagliere Board we selected had SUMMER GRUYÈRE, a tin with SCALLOPS/GALICIAN SAUCE, CHICKEN LIVER MOUSSE, and STUFFED GRAPE LEAVES along with plenty of sourdough bread and a bit of mustard. All items on the board was simply delicious. That chicken liver mousse is extra special. Probably the same can be said for the scallops.
At the end, we shared some delicious CHOCOLATE MINT CHEESECAKE. Glad we only got one as it very tasty and easy to eat too much.
Apryl was also able to inform us, after we asked about it, that the mountain you see when looking down Railroad Street from Moon Cloud is East Rock peak. Now, we know.
Thank you Apryl for a special experience...
Read moreWe were scoping out this bar as a spot for my daughters guests to visit during her wedding next year but we will not be recommending. We came in the early evening with our family during Christmas for after dinner drinks & left extremely disappointed - we all ordered a drink & on the second round the bartender stopped serving my son because he claimed he had too many drinks. This was our first & only stop after dinner. We initially chose to brush it off & leave, but the bartender approached us to let us know my son’s eyes were suspicious. Considering we all had one drink & had designated drivers, this was extremely disappointing. We did nothing to draw attention or cause any problems, but they singled him out & gave us no choice but to leave. We will not...
