I've heard people disparage PF Chang's as "inauthentic," but I can't imagine why I would CARE about authenticity. An Americanized take on Chinese food is exactly what I prefer. If I want authentic, I'll go to China, and I'm not going.
What PF Chang offers is delicious, with good service, and with NO obnoxiously anti-western music piped in. My wife and I, being old, have taken to dining early -- between 4 and 5:30 p.m. seating. There's always a table available during elderly diners' hours.
I especially appreciate the fact that Chang's keeps abandoned items on the menu. Dan Dan Noodles were dropped years ago ... but I can still order it. Recently, they stopped including julienned cucumbers with the Dan Dan Noodles, but the sprouts and the chicken and the spicing are still excellent.
We have been happy with the wait staff for years. They take pride in their kitchen and in their own actions as waiters. I once had a young waitress who, when we complained about being served pickled cucumbers instead of the plain julienned cukes, actually said, "The Dan Dan Noodles have ALWAYS been served that way."
"Always been that way" are fighting words to old people. I might not remember the name of my third grade teacher (though I remember all the other grades), but my memory for FOOD is superb and not fading. And when I said -- calmly and politely -- "I've been ordering Dan Dan Noodles at PF Chang's in Virginia, Santa Monica, Charlotte, Raleigh, and other cities for decades, and I can assure you that not once, in any PF Chang's, have the cucumbers been pickled." This provoked, not the expected apology, but an argument. So we asked the manager to assign a different waiter. But I'm telling you this because it is the ONLY time I've had a problem with any waiter at PF Chang's. And the manager complied with our request immediately, without objection or demanding an explanation. Nor did we wish to harm the young waitress. Maybe she'd learn from the experience not to get her dander up when longtime customers claim to know the menu better than she does.
Otherwise, we find that waiters at PF Chang come to recognize us as if it were a neighborhood restaurant. Everybody is kind and helpful, and they take pains to get our orders right.
And this is an odd point, I know, but they have root beer. I grew up in that remote era before colas took over the dark-soft-drink niche. Root beer was EVERYWHERE then. And since it has no caffeine (I'm allergic), it's a pleasure to have it available in this Americanized Chinese restaurant.
We love PF Chang's throughout the chain, but we have special affection for our local Greensboro restaurant.
And now, writing about it, I'm getting really hungry. But it's four a.m. and they won't be open for many hours. I just hope my wife doesn't have any other dinner plans...
Read moreI came here on 2/13/21. On this day, there has been many trees down and power outages across Greensboro and other cities. Many restaurants (both dine in and fast food) was closed on my side of town. Needless to say, I figured the friendly center would have power with how big they are. I ended Up here at P.F. Chang’s lol. There was no wait. I called before coming inside, just to be sure. I was getting hangry. I was sat right beside the host area. I did notice that a wait occurred not long after I was sat.
This is not my first time at this location. I normally get the same thing. My bf and I ordered sweet tea to drink. It was not sweet enough for me. I like fully southern SWEET tea.. the kind that’s almost diabetic. I switched it out and got the strawberry lemonade. As an app, I got the pork dumplings. I normally get them steamed but told the waitress, Hannah, to surprise me. When it came out (about 10 mins later) I noticed that she chose to pan fry it. It was delicious, as I would have expected. It was the perfect temperature.. not too hot where I couldn’t eat it yet and not too warm/cold where I would complain. It comes with a Thai chili sauce on the side that’s great for dipping or pouring completely on the dumplings. For 6 dumplings, it was $9.
This time for my entree, I got the Crispy honey shrimp. I normally go in between the shrimp and the chicken. I got the lunch version, which is $5 cheaper, as I know I’m not gonna eat it all. Plus, it’s less calories and I’m supposed to be dieting. I was in fact, right. I got full 3/4 way through my meal. What I didn’t know was that when you get the lunch portion, they out the meat and rice together. It was no problems for me. The only mix up was that I ordered brown rice but got fried rice. Other that that, I got full and enjoyed it.
My bf got the orange chicken with fried rice. He didn’t like that the chicken and rice mixed together. We normally get the regular version. He ultimately concluded that he didn’t like it and got another order of the fried dumplings. His orange chicken was discounted.
Covid wise, masks are required. They were worn by staff. They have a big bottle of hand sanitizer on the host stand. The Tables appear to be 6 feet apart and...
Read moreIf i could give zero stars I would. First, I would come with my wife and kids here on occasion and the vibe we get in here is definitely not family oriented, so definitely do not bring your family. My wife found a HAIR in her food and the staff tried to insult our intelligence and try to convince us it was from the shrimp, it was definitely a long disgusting black HAIR and they finally accepted that fact and only offered to replace the meal, at this point all of our appetites were ruined, (not surprised we found a hair, i saw the people in the back without hairnets and not very hygienic, often times smells of sewage in the restaurant ). We decided to give them one more chance and it was a nightmare, as Muslims we are fasting and decided to break our fasts here today and the food took longer than usual, but that’s ok, stuff happens, when we finally got our food, they forgot my sons food and were told it was coming, we continued to eat as we were fasting all day and were starving, and my son’s food never came, the only thing that came was the check, that had my son’s meal on it that was never received (mind you my 3 yr old is starving by now, he was not fasting tho) so I politely asked the waiter (I forgot his name, it was a tall black man with curly hair) why the meal we never received was on the check and why we never received the meal in the first place, and he asked if I wanted the meal taken off the check, and I replied, of course I do, Im not paying for food we did not get.. the waiter EXPLODED and made a scene and yelled at another waiter to take care of us, at this point i asked for the manager due to the waiter’s behavior, it was uncalled for, I was with my family, the manager (white lady, black hair) did absolutely nothing to solve the situation so I just left. I know these reviews do not get responded to, so I will be calling corporate tomorrow. I usually wouldn’t do that but for a big tall man to blow up and cause a scene in front of my family, during our holy month nonetheless, is...
