DO NOT EAT HERE AVOID THEIR GROUPON AND PROMOTIONS DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!
HORRIBLE service. Even worse management. No one on staff has accurate information in reference to their promotions. I received a groupon here as a gift, been here in the past so I was excited. Decided to use it for dinner, hostess had no knowledge of the promotion and said to ask my waiter. I asked prior to placing my order how the promotion could be used. Was told my friend and I could use the promotion, we just could not split the check or use it towards our beers. Fine, no problem. Even asked the waiter, 'I have to buy $30 of food to use this promotion' was told YES. Bill comes, waiter makes a remark that he had 'trouble' getting our bill. Bill has only received a discount of $10 and we still ow $20 plus $6 and change for beers. Asked why the full promotion wasn't taken, waiter says we can only use 'part' of the promotion per visit. Ask to speak to the manager, waiter has an attitude and says GLADLY. Manager comes over after the waiter yells across the bar what the issue was. Manager begins to over talk me as i'm explaining the situation, immediately begins to accuse me and my friend of skipping out on our bill. I asked if there was someone else I could speak to or if he could call the owner. He said he's done it before but won't be doing it now. He continues to raise his voice, over talk me, and demand me to pay the remaining amount. At this point, I understand that he is not going to be respectful, nor is he even going to honor the promotion THEY provided, so I call the police. A police officer had to waste tax dollars to mediate a coupon discount because a manager did not want to own the mistake of not being educated of current restaraunt promotions. He kept saying he didn't want to get in 'trouble' with his boss for honoring the promotion. But instead, he'd rather ruin the reputation of the establishment.
Needless to say after he DID call the owner and the police stood at my table in a restaurant of people, I paid for my beers, they accepted the groupon, and my friend and I were BANNED from the establishment. Yes, BANNED over THEIR mistake. Embarrassed, disgusted, and just shocked that their doors are still open treating...
Read moreWith a location nestled in the Friendly Center, Poblano’s is bound to draw a fair amount of shoppers in search of a lunch spot (at least that’s how they first lured me in). The shopping plaza building is surprisingly deep, and the spacious interior offers plenty of seating. While Poblano’s mostly sticks to the standard Mexican restaurant script (Spanish-language music, free chips and salsa), there are a few innovations here. You can get fresh guacamole prepared tableside, the deep menu includes plenty of dessert and vegetarian options, and some of the burrito names (Macho, Monster, Dos Manos) are challenges waiting to be answered. Plus, how often do you find a Mexican Sunday brunch?
Unfortunately, variety aside, the food isn’t very good. Poblano’s offers authentic-style $1 tacos on Tuesdays, but they can’t hold a candle to El Azteca’s. The pastor (marinated pork) was overcooked, there was no avocado, and the curious doubling of the tortillas made for a dry, spongy flavor. A previous order of camarones fundidos fared better, but was still far from exceptional.
Pricing at Poblano’s varies. The abundance of lunch specials ensures that you can get a decent-sized meal and a drink for under $10, but as a dinner spot, it offers no exceptional value. Servers were polite and attentive enough, though you walk away with the sense they can’t get you out the door fast enough.
There are worse options for Mexican than Poblano’s, but with so many better ones...
Read moreDined in for lunch. Usually this place is pretty decent, but after having lunch here recently, I’m not so sure. The tea was served very weak. When I told the waitress about it, she said, “Well the tea is free today anyway as part of the meal”. I told her at that time, just get me water then because it’s not going to make much difference at this point. She came back with water to the table taking away the very pale light colored tea. The tea was so pale there was no brown color to it, just slight sugar, ice and a pale beige color. I looked around at the tables and this tea was being served at a few tables, but many of the tables had just plain water. I asked to speak to the manager. I told the manager why was the tea being served watered down? He said that it was my opinion and no one else has complained about it. Keep in mind I usually frequent this restaurant, and the tea is usually fine. I told him if having free tea means having a watered down version than I’d rather pay to have good tea than tea flavored water. He simply apologized and walked away. I’m hoping this was just a “bad day” for this restaurant and not a starting trend. If a restaurant is advertising free tea with a meal, they shouldn’t cheapen the product just to get people in the door, shows a real lack of integrity and it won’t keep customers...
