WARNING THIS MAY TURN INTO A REVIEW RANT. This is the 3rd Pound Cakes by Margaret bakery. I'm sad to say this one us suffering from the same issues as the ones that came and closed before it.😔
I give the pound cakes and service 5 Stars. The cakes come a variety of flavors. So you might wonder why only 2 Stars? It's because no matter how flavorful and fantastic the cakes may be it's not worth anything if there not any cake!!! Only ONE cake of whatever flavors the owner decided to have for the day is baked at a time. So there is NEVER another pound cake ready to be served when the last slice of the current cake is sold! When asked if there is another cake of that flavor or about other flavors you are told they are currently being mixed up and should be out in about 2 HOURS!
So you see the business practice needs work. Too often me or those I know go in to buy cake and the last one of the flavor we are trying to buy is sold right before it's our turn to order! You NEVER know WHAT FLAVORS will be available on any day because there is no set schedule of what cakes will be out on what days! All you can do is call ahead and ask then HOPE there will still be slices available when you get there.
So how my friends, family and I feel about Pound Cakes by Margaret Elaine, the cakes themselves are absolutely wonderful (WHEN YOU CAN GET ONE). But the business practices sometimes just don't make it worth the effort.
To improve: - The basic flavors of pound cake should ALWAYS be available! i.e. Plain, Lemon, Lemon glaze, whatever other high demand flavors. There needs to be a set list of what cakes will be available on what days. Even if it's only published online and with take home flyers in the bakery. More then one cake of each flavor baked at a time. Even if the next cake doesn't go into the oven until the current cake is only has 3/4 remaining. Every customer should be able to walk out with a slice of their originally desired flavor. There should never be a time where customers are told to come back for the flavor then want. Especially when they have already stood in line for 10 minutes only to be told the last slice of what they wanted was just sold! There can still be surprise flavors throughout the day (Hey variety is the spice of life). Never put hot or still steaming cakes under a dome, they should always be allowed to cool first. They will be just as fresh but have had...
Read moreI was so glad to see this cake shop on Google maps because it use to be called "the sweet shop" in downtown Greensboro, NC. Apparently, I wasn't aware of them moving to a new location but I finally found them. I'm glad that they are still open (especially during the pandemic). Even though the name change, their pound cakes and their dessert still taste the same. On September 7th, I went there and I bought myself a birthday pound cake. My first time having their birthday cake. As usually, the cake taste wonderful. The things I like about "pound by legacy" that it's a black owned business. I usually will see the business owner behind the counter. I can't remember her name but I remember how she's kind to me. She probably can't me but I still remember her from her old shop in downtown Greensboro. I really hope that she can continue her business (successfully) because it is hard for a business owner to operate a small business. Overall, I had a great experiences. I also need to mention that their shop is still doing covid 19 protocol for your and they safety. It would be a common courtesy to put on...
Read moreWas across the street eating dinner at Fat Dogs when I saw this place. Please, do yourself a favor and visit. It would be easy to drive by this little place if you’re not paying attention, but put it in your GPS and be on the look out! I swear there are about 20 flavors to choose from, but after speaking with the lady, not all are available every single day. And let’s get real, it’s a bit unreasonable to expect someone to bake that many pound cakes each day, just for them to go to waste. But she keeps the classics on hand. I tried the rum and cheesecake pound cake and yes yes yes! I got my hubs an m&m cookie and nearly ate the whole thing. And these are not average sized cookies, they are well worth every penny! And I saw someone complain about price, baking is a labor of love and it’s worth paying for good food to support a local business. And, it’s not like you’re given a skimpy slice of cake, these slices could easily be eaten on for a couple days, if you have...
