We used to come here all the time. I mean maybe 2-3 times a WEEK. The service was great, people were friendly, food was great, etc. We always came with at least 4 people, if not even more when family visited, and this is where we chose to go. We LOVE the chips and salsa here, and we did go through quite a bit. (We always ordered food and drinks as well though, never tried to only get chips and salsa and leave). The menu changed, we stayed coming. Prices went up and we stayed coming, understanding through hard times. During peak covid we still did take out orders when the restaurant was closed. We were very loyal to the restaurant and never had issues here, until recently. Taco Tuesday, $1.99 tacos with the purchase of a drink. 3 weeks in a row, the change has been shorted by $0.20. Sure twenty cents isn't much, but it adds up and is ridiculous when three weeks in a row, you're shorted your change. We did not say anything the first 2 times but the third time was enough. After saying something to the waiter he caught an attitude and gave back the wrong change again and stomped off. Which became his deserved tip. For all the years we have come to this Rio Grande, (ever since it opened in the old shopping center across the road and even when moving), Chips and salsa were ALWAYS unlimited. We always came and enjoyed the chips and salsa, and ordering bean dip, as well as enjoying the food. But, now they limit their salsa to 5 per table? Okay.. sure if it's 2 people, 5 salsa's will be enough. But so if i come in with 10 people i'm only going to get 5 salsas? Regardless of how many people we have, we just get a limit of 5? with a side of attitude I may add. Not only is the salsa suddenly limited, the bowls are half full. So salsa gets limited with only half full bowls and if you ask for more, it seems like its an issue for them to even bring it out. We ate here again, Sunday April 10, 2022. It will more than likely be our last meal at this place, unless something improves. Waiter was rude today, seemingly having an attitude. He slammed drinks down, and slammed food down on the table when he bothered to come back by. The meal then ended with a smart remark from the waiter. Poor service of a place who used to have much higher standards than this. Would much rather support a business who treats their customers like the old staff did, not say smart remarks or catch attitudes when something is messed up and it gets explained. Today was one of the worst experiences while trying to have a nice family outing, at what used to be one of our favorite...
Read moreWe have always had a good experience here until today. The food itself was fine, but the service was lacking. It was very busy and there was a misunderstanding by the waitress when we ordered. This lead to me getting my meal while we waited and waited and waited for my husband's meal. I finally had to go find her to ask her where his meal was. She had mistakenly thought he didn't order anything (when all he wanted was to leave a topping off). It was a bizarre leap for her to think I would eat lunch there while he ate nothing, since it was obvious he was asking about a meal. Regardless, she corrected the problem, got his lunch out quickly (though I had already finished my meal), and apologized for the confusion. So in our view we are back on track, except we fully expected our bill to be reduced. Maybe comp the sodas or take 20% off or perhaps his lunch would be 50% off...or something! Instead we were met with the full price bill, we asked to speak with the manager, and then we had to convince him we deserved a discount. It was OBVIOUS he didn't want to do that. He did end up taking $7 off the bill in the end and we were ok with that. However the part that bothered us most was their lack of effort to acknowledge their error through some kind of customer service related discount off the bill without us having to beg for it. Him coming out to the table and basically trying to suggest they weren't the at fault party in this scenario left a very bad taste in our mouths. All we wanted was a small discount off the bill as an acknowledgment they had screwed up and were sorry for making us eat at separate times during this very awkward visit to their restaurant. We felt this should have been done automatically. The fact that we had to not only ask, but basically argue our position for why we thought we deserved it was tacky, unprofessional, and disrespectful. We eat there all of the time and this is how they say thank you? Not ok.
It will be a while before we...
Read moreWhen I was told about how authentic Rio Grande is I have to admit I was quite skeptical (and boy was I wrong). When I finally got around to visiting, I sat out on the patio with my wife....this has to be one of the best patio atmospheres in town!! It overlooks the a pond and is surrounded by gorgeous flowers. My wife ordered a Mojito and I had the Oro Margarita and they were great!!! The beer selection is also good for a mexican restaurant. I ordered the Jalisco style tacos, which is the Rio Grande name for authentic mexican "street tacos". They were as good as anything I have had in Californiaor Mexico!!! If you like chorizo, be sure to try the Diabla, which is steak and Chorizo. The pastor was impressive as well. My wife ordered the San Diego burrito, which is a West Coast style burrito!! This reminded us of home!!! There is also an extensive ACP menu with several variations of ACP and the freshly made guacamole is good as well. The salsa is freshly made every morning and it is superb...for those of you who like hotter salsas, Rio also has three different other homede salsas, a flavorful Roja (or picos), a Habanero that is very powerful and a very interesting avocado-based verde....this is top notch Mexican cuisine in the triad and the prices and service are also up to par. My wife and I will surely be regulars...
