Food: (had only appetizers) : good, flavorful, quickly prepared and served. The crab cakes and the spinach & artichoke dip were both very tasty.
Service: mostly OK. Server was cheerful and friendly, but woefully uneducated about the bar and the drinks available there. She attributed this to the fact that she isn't of drinking age. I attribute it to poor training by management.
Drinks: mine was horrible. The drink menu is very limited for those of us who don't like beer or wine, and even more severely limited for those of us who don't like Red Bull. I ordered something called an Orange Crush, which by title and description I expected to taste like oranges. Silly me. The clearish liquid presented to me tasted mostly of club soda. If there was actually any orange juice in it (as I believe the menu said it should contain), it had to be less than a teaspoon. I drank as much as I could stomach, then set it aside. One of my companions suggested that I tell the server I couldn't stand the drink and order another, believing that the first one would be removed from my bill. I told the server, and asked for a margarita (not on the menu). The drink I received was technically a margarita , obviously mixed straight out of a bottle of commercial margarita mix without benefit of any sort of orange liqueur. No salt on the rim, either, tho there was a lime wedge. It was - - and I'm trying to be generous here - mediocre, at best. On a more positive note, my companion said her martini, which she had to tell the server how to order, was quite good, so the bartender did get something right. Yay for that?
The bill came, and I saw that I was billed $7.99 for the undrinkable Orange Crush, and was also billed for the mediocre margarita (which I drank despite its mediocrity, and thus expected to pay for).
Fun Fact: Kickback Jack's writes themselves a license to serve lousy drinks with a little line of type at the bottom of the drink menu that says all alcohol sales are final.
Oddly enough, I'm not in the habit of committing menu contents to memory. The server didn't bother to mention that all alcohol sales are final when I told her how horrible the Orange Crush was, but she did let me know when I asked about the charge. To be fair, she offered to get a manager, but my companion had another commitment to get to and I just didn't feel like I had the time for hashing things out. I do have to wonder if the food menu also contains a bit of mice type at the bottom about all food sales being final. We had only appetizers and drinks, so I didn't browse the food menu--and I won't have the opportunity, because this was simultaneously my first and last visit to KJ. There are so many other options available where one can get a decent - - even a good--mixed drink and tasty appetizers that I can think of no reason to go back to KJ.
The moral of this story is this : read and remember the mice type on KJ menus, or you may find yourself paying for the...
Read moreI have been a fan of kickback jacks for about 8 years now, since moving to Greensboro. I used to frequent the battleground location until the highwoods blvd location opened. We come about once a month (my husband comes every week) but hadnât been as a family in several months. We came in a couple weekends ago to celebrate a graduation for my nephew. We were a party of 16. our server, a younger blonde girl named Emily, completely ruined the entire experience for us. She was inattentive, unwelcoming, and seemed like she truly did not enjoy her job. she Rolled her eyes every time we asked for a refill on our drinks, or asked for anything extra like sauces (which we are aware we have to pay for). And she never smiled nor one time! It seemed like we were interrupting her own dinner experience that she was having with her coworkers (who equally seemed bothered by any customerâs request). Terrible service and completely opposite from the wonderful server we used to have last year named Sue. Where did she go by the way? My kids were looking forward to having her as our server as she always made the experience ten times better than we expected. We asked the hostess to be seated in Sueâs section but they said they couldnât tell us anything about her except she no longer worked there. That is unfortunate because Sue could teach these new servers a thing or two about customer service. So sad how this place has gone down hill in only 8 months. Is someone new doing the hiring of the servers?? The quality of service and severs has definitely gone down. Perhaps someone different should be interviewing the servers for this location. My next step will be calling the corporate office to let them know about the quality of the servers they have. I will say the food is outstanding. The firecracker shrimp, Philly egg rolls, cranberry turkey flatbread, dry rub wings and spinach artichoke dip did not disappoint. Kudos to the kitchen staff because that is the only reason we stayed. We wonât be back until corporate office can reassure us that the quality of service and servers will go back to how it was last year. Maybe we will order take out if my kids insist but as stated before, Emily completely ruined it for us as well as the other servers who were chomping on their food and on their phones taking selfies while walking around the restaurant and approaching tables. (I think their manager (a 30 something ethnic woman) was sitting with them enjoying her dinner and on her phone as well while the restaurant was very busy!) We are very let down. Get it together Mr....
Read moreI went into this restaurant this afternoon and they had a large party in a separate room and my fiancĂ© and I felt as though weâd been put on the back burner. Weâd ordered an appetizer of onion petals that was half a basket to start and added insult to injury by being half onion skins. I ordered the seafood platter and only one of my shrimp was completely peeled and deveined the rest had most of their shell and the legs still in tact. We got our bill and something wasnât adding up when we checked our bank statement. I went back in to see what was up. We had not tipped well because our waitress was a bit abrasive and short, but weâd given her a few dollars. I was told that what we were charged for is what we had paid and that the previous transaction would come off our bank statement to be replaced with the proper one. I was still at a loss as to why our bank statement was so off base from our actual price. My fiancĂ© and I did the math adding 20% gratuity to our check and it was right down to the penny. It was just my fiancĂ© and myself, so I knew there was no automatic gratuity for our check. I called to speak to the same manager with whom Iâd spoken to before but she was busy and I was handed off to another manager for whom I repeated the entire ordeal, he took my number and looked into it and the original manager with whom I originally spoke called me back and asked the problem and told me that it was strange, but that she would leave a note with the four oâclock manager because she was more familiar with the computer system than she was. Iâm not sure how many managers I have to speak to about a fraudulent charge, but you canât be so ignorant to believe that waiters/waitresses have not taken a tip they felt was fair without authorization before. Will provide update when the 4 oâclock manager calls, but I will not be returning to...
