Probably a 3.5 ish out of 5 overall. I got a few different things so Iāll just go through each individually. Peppersteak was a 8.5 out of 10. Great sandwich, very flavorful, each ingredient was rationed in well and mixed together perfectly. Cheeseburger, which Iām assuming isnāt necessarily what theyāre known for, thatās gonna be a 4 out of 10 for me. It almost has like the texture of a plant based burger, it was weird because it wasnāt undercooked, it didnāt look or taste undercooked, but the beef felt undercooked when biting into it. Itās an odd bite. Nothing stands out about it, although they do get some redemption points for using sesame seed buns. Meat had no seasoning to it. And the fries were the same, 4 out of 10. Probably the most mid grade, basic burger and fries Iāve had since being in Greenville, definitely not worth the almost $12 without a drink. I was given 3 little salt packets for the fries, but thatās about it. Had higher hopes for both of those items. The steak sandwiches carry this place. And I donāt mean that in a bad way. Thereās nothing wrong with specializing in something. They do have a combo menu, but itās limited to I think maybe 4 or 5 items when they have many sandwiches to choose from, so it would be nice if they could potentially incorporate the option of making each sandwich a combo. Maybe they do that already and I just didnāt see it on the menu. I would definitely go back for the peppersteak, but outside of that I felt there was a lot left to be desired food wise. This was my first time, so I was not aware you could place orders in advance, I recommend doing so rather than ordering in store. I waited about 15-20 minutes for my items which, as I said that is my fault for not placing an order in advance, not theirs. Iām guessing as well this place is a local legend where most customers already know what they want when they walk in. The only posted menu they had was a single printed sheet showing the menu on the counter. But it does give off a very good old school 60ās/70ās type atmosphere and as a fan of anything nostalgic I will always appreciate that. And everyone working was having a good time and joking around, which as someone who was in that industry for 2 decades, I know how important it is in a kitchen to have that type of environment so I loved seeing that. If it werenāt for the burger being so odd and the fries being so bland, this wouldāve probably crept up to a 5 star for me. Service and atmosphere were awesome, peppersteak...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I tell you to RUN and not walk to this place... I mean it!!! I had heard many things about this particular establishment from not only reviews but several people, so I decided to give then a try today. I am 45 minutes away from this restaurant but was in the area today, and I wanted to take a chance on this place... I'm SO GLAD I did!! From the minute you walk in you are greeted with some of the most amazing scents and smells of your lifetime!! I can see why the parking lot was full and there were so many people inside waiting patiently for their perfectly prepared creations. At the advice of a few, I chose the large Peppersteak Sub All The Way, and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed!! I just don't know how they can pack so much flavor in one sandwich!! The entire staff was so friendly and polite and busily working to help everyone, and the short wait was well worth the product (trust me on the wait) There were a few small tables available for dine in, if you choose, but I saw most people were like me and chose to carry out. Grade A Sanitation on the wall, everything was clean and I found the environment welcoming. Now on to the sub... I don't know if they bake the bread in house or have it delivered, but it was so soft and fresh, but that little bit of crunch you want in that perfect bite! The steak was prepared and seasoned perfectly, with just the right amount of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers onion and oregano that your mouth is on the best carnival ride of your life in those bites! The only negative thing I can say is that I'm 90 minutes away round trip, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be back there again soon!! And yes, if you follow me, you know I don't give alot of 5 star reviews... but this place Is DEFINITELY 5 star worthy! Keep up the good work guys, I'll be dropping in on you again in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm from New Jersey but spent much of my life in Greenville NC. This isn't what you'll find in Jersey, NY and definitely not Philly but it's not all bad. I had this many times over the years. Not so much the last 10 since I moved to Raleigh. Seasoning on the steak is inconsistent. I was there Saturday night, Feb 5th. My steak was way too salty and too spicy with black pepper. I couldn't finish it. My wife had the same complaint a week prior. Sometimes it's bland and I have to add salt and pepper other times its perfectly seasoned. ( with the Seasoning and portion size, you never know what you're going to get) Also I get just about as much cheese on the wrapping paper as I get on the sandwich. Last but not least when I order extra meat and I'm charged nearly $12 for the Sub, I expect to easily be able to tell the difference between the one with extra verses the regular portion of meat. A lot of room for improvement. But, so doable, if someone really cares to do so. You should have at least 5 stores In Greenville by now. Consistency is the biggest thing you're lacking. That place is long over due for a remodel to. Renovate, catch-up with the rest of the restaurant world. That place has looked and run the same for decades too long. I hope this is helpful to ownership and management, as well, That's what I spent most of my adult life doing. As a manager, I would have appreciated the feedback. I...
