⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our experience at ECU Health was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism that immediately put us at ease. The hospital is incredibly children-friendly, with a welcoming and themed environment that helped ease our nerves—and our child’s—as we prepared for his surgery. One standout feature was the Pediatrics surgery room. This room was filled with toys and activities for the kids to play with directly before heading into the OR. It was such an amazing tactic to keep the little ones busy and distracted, and it worked wonders for our son. Even after surgery, while still under the effects of anesthesia, our son immediately wanted to go back to that room to play. He was so intrigued and happy that he didn’t even realize he had stitches! This thoughtful touch made a world of difference in his experience—and ours. The staff was exceptional in every way. As a person of color, I’ve never felt more welcomed and respected in a healthcare setting. Every interaction was filled with kindness, empathy, and a genuine desire to make us feel comfortable. The doctors, including Dr. Longshore and Ryan the anesthesiologist, were phenomenal—knowledgeable, attentive, and truly dedicated to our son’s care. Even the cafeteria deserves a shoutout! The food was outstanding, which was a pleasant surprise during such a stressful time. ECU Health goes above and beyond to create a positive experience for families. We are so grateful for the care we received and highly recommend this hospital to anyone in need of exceptional medical care. Thank you to the entire team for making such a difficult time so much easier for our family.

My mother is a patient here At Vidant Health Hospital. We called prior to coming to visit to inquire about the visitation restrictions due to COVID-19. We was told on several occasions that we could sit in waiting area and visit one at a time, we drove 2 hours to visit our mother. We was told on July 25, 2020 that someone called and complained that there was too many people waiting in the “waiting area” and that we needed to leave. The receptionist told us that the hospital closed the waiting area that they previously had for visitors because it was not being used and visitors was choosing to sit in their vehicles instead. It is 90+ degrees today and we as visitors should NOT have to wait in the heat in our vehicle to see our mother due to Vidant not having a designated area for visitors. This email will be sent to every individual that I can locate online as well as reported to your local news broadcasters. There needs to be a designated area for visitors to wait so that they can visit their loved ones. It seemed that the only ones that was told they had to leave was the black people. I called on August 8, 2020 to find out what time my mom had to be over there the following Monday to get her staples out. I was transferred to admission and no one EVER answered the phone I was on hold for an ENTIRE HOUR, screenshots attached. This is about to be the WORST hospital ever. I don’t know who is running this hospital but they are doing an HORRIBLE job!!!

This has been THEE worst experience IN MY LIFE!! My loved one came into the hospital walking and left out paralyzed from the waist down. The communication was not only ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE with the patient and family, but It ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS between the staff members. THEY ARE NEVER ON THE SAME PAGE WITH EACH OTHER. I felt like we were dealing with the students who are currently in medical school. My loved one went from Physical Therapy to the ER because he caught pneumonia from his room feeling like the North Pole. From that point he ended up in ICU being cared for by the grim reaper herself. I BELIEVE this nurse wanted my love one dead because we have firmly told each and every doctor and Nurse that the patient NEVER EVER use air conditioning at home because he’s hot natured person. Most of his career was spent sandblasting the inside of tanks, in the heat as well as outdoors. So in the hospital he would request to have the thermostat set to •72 degrees not too warm or cold. This one particular nurse (Rose) would wait until we were sleeping and walk past the thermostat and knock the thermostat down…not to 68, or 65 but as far as it would go to the lowest setting. Not once but twice! When I communicated with her regarding this matter she developed Alzheimer’s, then act as if she couldn’t understand English. If you ever end up with Nurse Rose in ICU, pop the breaks off that bed and wheel yourself or family member out of there!!! I thought that the ICU was supposed to be about the COMFORT and the care of the PATIENT ??? Instead she only thought about herself and made sure that a room that she didn’t have to STAY in was as Cold as the room could get! He woke up gasping for air! The devil on my left shoulder told me to take my belt off and whooop her azz all around the ICU.THE MOST CARELESS & CORRUPT HOSPITAL I’ve EVER stepped foot in! If I could’ve given a “0” rating I would’ve! THROW THE WHOLE MF HOSPITAL AWAY!! UPDATE:::Let’s just say they pronounced him deceased on June 1st when he was already dead on May 27, 2024. Yes I watched them have 0 intentions of him getting him better. I’d rather take my chances at a Butcher shop before I take it with this...

My mother was transported by ambulance to ECU Medical for shortness of breath. I arrived she was placed on the by pap. The first diagnosis was pneumonia and keeping her overnight turned into the beginning of a rodeo! I left her and stated that I would return the next day. That morning I FaceTimed her and she was fine she stated that the male nurse gave her a new blood pressure medication to try. Lopresser was the name and her not being totally aware that was the med that she was having a reaction to and was asked several times to hold by myself her POA and the patient herself, was still given metoprolol the same med. He took advantage of the fact she was ill and not aware. She asked to use the bathroom and her overnight nurse was upset that she didn’t want to use the bedside commode, snatched the linen off of her and went to grab my mother’s arm. My mother advised the nurse to not ruff her up. She put her back yo bed safely and placed my mother’s call bell out of reach. My mother called out from the orange nurse button on the bed and the nurse was upset trying to figure out how did she call the nurses station. That was the MIU north tower 2nd floor. She was then transferred do to the medication give a hour later they called a rapid response and I was informed that she had taken a tuen for the worse. Moved to CICU where I asked for POA and to be transferred out of this hospital. Everything I asked for was dismissed by the ICU team. It wasn’t until I requested to speak to a patient advocate that her quality of care changed. Now we are in the cardiac ICU on day 8 waiting for what I requested from day 2 and that is a transfer. Now all of a sudden she has heart failure and I understand things happen but the staff has insulted me and played in our face since day 1. At this point they have prolonged treatment, for what I feel is insurance purposes. I even had a charge nurse tell me if she is transported out that I would have to pay out of pocket! That doesn’t matter when it comes to life or death and a decision such as this was above his pay. If it is depending on your life try and make it elsewhere where this is not the place...

I was impatient I myself was not treated well at all by drs. I did have one great nurse! But when you’re inpatient for 6 days I wish I could say more good! I know reading reviews that it’s easy to say oh one person wasn’t happy, maybe it’s the patient. Not only had I expressed concerns about my own care, but I also expressed concerns over others care. There was an elderly lady next-door who is being horribly ridiculed by doctors and nurses in front of her and in front of my door. Upon looking at notes in my file I found doctors stating that they had spent much more time on me in a room than they had actually spent. To be exact, they said that they spent 56 minutes discussing the problem with my husband and myself not including time to look over a chart and test. In actuality, they were in our room for less than five minutes and could not answer basic info in my chart about the circumstances. If you are going to go here, make sure you watch your doctors notes and your nurses notes in my chart. Be prepared to be the very best advocate you can be for yourself which means making your own prognosis on your medical condition and how to treat it. You are basically going to be your doctor and you will have to tell the actual doctor how to treat your problem and hope that they will use the education that you have found…. If they can be bothered for the day. I went in with unknown reason of swelling causing lungs to be partially collapsed and pressure on my heart. I didn’t know how to treat this and still don’t! Be aware once you state a concern they literally huddle together and will not oppose each other. I did have one Dr and one nurse try to defend me. The nurse was sent home because she “must be having a bad day”. The dr was told that they appreciated the concern but where not taking their impressions into account. End of the day my abdominal swelling is even bigger. My breathing is getting even more shallow. My heart hurts so bad. While imaging confirmed this.. drs did nothing. Now I’m headed to a better hospital. But I pray if something happens to me someone holds them accountable and financially...
