Giving three stars because it's possible they got better. But the last time I went, a few years ago, they guaranteed I wouldn't be coming back. The food was never more than average to start with, but that's okay, not a big deal. I enjoyed it.
Until that last evening, was there with a couple of people, and ordered my usual salmon nigiri - still one of my favourites, and my go-to to judge any new sushi house I visit. This night, it wasn't quite the orange shade it should be, it almost looked more like tuna. And it had a bit of a fishy smell, which sushi shouldn't, of course.
We said something about it to our waitress, and she took it away and came back with a replacement. Which was clearly just more of the same fish, very obviously a bit off. We said something again, and the waitress left, and then came back with the ?owner? general manager?, a woman who then said to us, "Maybe you not order salmon no more." Orrrr, maybe you don't serve fish gone off. And maybe I don't come back here ever.
And I haven't, and they've missed out on the tens of thousands I've spent on sushi in the interim - I eat sushi a LOT, and I'm spendy. Maybe they're under new management now, maybe they're not like this anymore. That'd be good.
In the meantime though, if you want the best sushi shop in Greenville, according to this very picky traditionalist, check my other reviews. I'll be good and not name it here, but nothing else comes close that I've...
Read moreThe food was delicious as always but the service was terrible. The server (Elijah) went to the table beside me to drop off the check and walked away, I didn't know he was my server. He came back a few minutes later and said what do you want today. I told him a water and steamed gyoza, I didn't know what roll yet. When he came back with my water, he asked, so you know what you want yet so I told him. He never refilled my water but he came finally up to get my plate and asked me if I was still alright (my mouth was full so I nodded my head) I only had 3 pieces of sushi left so when I finished, I sat there waiting with nothing to drink waiting on my check. I finally stood up and saw him and two girls sitting at a booth facing me talking. One of the girls made eye contact with me but then just started looking around, never said anything to him about me looking around. I finally said, can I get my check please? He walks to the table and asked if I was ready for my check, I said yes, so he comes back and drops it off. Thankfully, I was paying with cash and not card so I didn't have to wait for him to come back. This used to be my go to spot for sushi when I came to Greenville but the last two times I came, the service wasn't good so I've been trying other places. I finally decided to give them another try and today was the worst experience I've had there. I hope the service improves so if I give them another try, it can be my go...
Read moreWe ate there Dec.22 there were 9 of us and we had reservations. But, it was early, 6pm, and not that busy. Waiter took our drink orders and brought drinks and didn't come back. We had to ask greeter to get him. He took our appetizer orders, brought them and didn't come back. Again had to ask greeter to get him for us. We all ordered and food was delivered. All but one of my daughters at end of table. He never said it will be out shortly - just left. We waited and waited. Everyone started eating and he still didn't come. I finally asked greeter to call a manager. A woman came over and I told her about waiter and pointed to my DD with no food. She came back and said it would be right out and that he should not have brought any until it was all ready. We had to send someone again to get him for bill. I told him we needed two boxes. He brought one. And, to make an awful evening even worse since there were 9 of us an 18% tip was already added to the bill and not just 18% of the food - also 18% of the tax. (and no comping of the food that came after everyone else was almost through). We have been eating at Irashai for years since they first opened on Rushmore. I guess it is time to explore some of the other...
