I went here for the first time with my family, and, while the ambiance was good, the food was disappointing.
We were given a meager menu compared to the one listed online, with only two of the ten salad options, none of the sandwiches, one soup option out of three, several kebab options, and only a handful of appetisers. (I'm not sure if the menus rotate, if there are secret menu items, or if options have been cut for costs, either way, that would be a good thing for the wait-staff to mention)
Being used to Greek cuisine, one of us ordered the dolma appetiser as their meal (online, this is shown as a meal option served with hummus and a salad, however, it was absent as one in the restaurant). A dish the size of a butter-plate was brought to them with a dozen olive-sized dolma on it; definitely not the palm-length dolma we're used to, and the waitress never asked if they were certain that that was all they wanted, nor did she explain beforehandbefor the dolma was miniscule.
The rest of us ordered chicken, and were not asked how we wanted our food cooked. It was barely cooked, flavourless (no salt, pepper, garlic, etc, and only saffron...a very mild, but fragrant spice...for flavour), and quite chewy; shocking for how long we had to wait (most of us are experienced cooks).
I'm allergic to tomatoes, so I had to ask about what was on the kebabs, and the waitress almost didn't tell me because "tomato is a fruit". I'm well aware, however, a food's categorisation does not alter my allergy to it. Perhaps because I dared ask for onion instead of tomato (the waitress wasn't keen about dish customisation, and she said that she doubted that the cook would want to change anything; not a good attitude to have in the face of potentially dangerous allergies or returning customers), the onion was half raw, half charred.
The saffron rice was honestly my favourite part of the dish.
I also wanted to order a different drink, however, after bringing us all water, the waitress never addressed drinks again. Luckily, I like water.
There are many additional details that I could mention or nit-pick about (the avocado mix was 80% cilantro...a little goes a long way...and the strawberries were not minced, they were halved; the lighting was shockingly dark...some of us couldn't read the menus, and the darkness was only relieved for a moment when someone came through the front door; the music, while fun and festive...a cheerful mixture of traditional Greek, Spanish, and Slavic dance songs...was intrusively loud; they forgot to bring the order for one of us; as soon as a larger party came in, we were abandoned...), however, I've spent enough time writing this much.
Do I recommend coming here? Yes, it's good to try new things, and if you enjoy dark, cacophonous places with limited menu options (some people panic over larger menus), then you'll love it here.
Oh, and the decor was...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Greenville with good food and perfectly tender juice grilled meats and friendly service. I sent them business and was a repeat customer. Tonight, every entree was overcooked, the food was cold, and they did not bring us the sides we ordered. Some in our party sent their food back and others muddled through. They were reminded (nicely) about the sides (grilled veg). There was only one other table in the restaurant and they were eating. Despite this it took well over 30 minutes for the food to come back (it was medium rare grilled meat some white rice). Those of us who kept our food were long finished with our meals by the time it arrived. The grilled vegetables finally came out with the second round of meals but no longer needed as half of us were done eating. When waiting for the second round of food I spoke up to staff. They assured me there was not a new cook or a different owner. The owner came to our table and when I told him what happened, he was defensive “what do you want ME to do?” And he said that they grill meats and can’t tell how done the meat is. ?? Since it took so long to get our food we were the last ones in the restaurant though closing time was over an hour off. They turned off the music while we were eating. Then they turned it back on, then off again, then on and then fast forwarding through songs, then off, then on again super loud. We asked if the music could be turned down and they turned it off. As soon as meals were finished we were talking a bit while one in our party finished their wine and staff began hurriedly and noisily reaching over us to clear every last thing off our table clearly signaling for us to go. Again restaurant closing time over an hour away and the only reason we were as late as we were is that they took so long to get our food out. No dessert menus or offers, no apology from the owner. Awful on top of awful. We were not rude or loud when we did speak up about what was happening. I traveled 2 hours to have precious time and a nice meal with loved ones and being treated this way cast a pall on our time together for all of us. Needless to say, will never...
Read moreMy husband and I came here again for dinner 12 days ago. The food is so flavorful. Everything is roasted or flame grilled and tastes incredible! I had skewered shrimp and my husband had beef koobideh. His rice was kind of bland, but just add the homemade hot sauce and pretty good. My rice had a herb broth flavor that made it the best tasting rice I've eaten. The texture of their rice is perfect, not sticky or over cooked. We also had their hummus and homemade pita bread. I could eat that daily for lunch!! They brought over a delicious flame grilled green pepper side that was delicious. My husband's non-alcohol Sharbat Sekanjebin and my Tehrangeles, saffron infused vodka with ginger beer and lime was terrific. Of course, we enjoyed our baklava dessert. Many of our friends have gone here and everyone of them report that their experience is terrific as well. Just because their name implies vegetarian. There are tons of meat dinners here and vegetarian as well. Give it a try!!
WOW! If you've been looking for Great middle eastern food in Greenville, this is the place! If you love kebabs and are not sure about middle eastern, you have to try Green Lettuce. The food is incredible!! So many appetizers to choose from. The hummus and beets were excellent. The pita bread was fresh and delicious. I had a Mango Ye Am cocktail. Great way to start the meal. I had shrimp kebabs and my husband had lamb kebabs. The shrimp and meat is top quality and prepared perfectly and flavorful! They come with roasted tomatoes and rice. If you like more flavor with your rice, the meal comes with a house made hot sauce prepared differently each day. On the table is something called Sumak seasoning (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly). We used both and mixed with rice and it was so tasty. We had the best baklava I have ever eaten. It is not drenched in honey instead it has a touch of honey and is served warm with a buttery goodness which combines perfectly with the layers of dough. The music is authentic. The bubbling fountain creates a romantic, peaceful atmosphere. Love everything. Oh, the service is outstanding!!! We'll be back and you...
