While this seems to be an overly used word today, it absolutely describes my experience @ Sasha's!!!.... AWESOME!!!! Or even AMAZING!! My son took me to lunch today along with his lovely young lady to Sasha's. DON'T let the view from the road deter you. If you want to have fresh, delicious and traditionally prepared Columbian food in a cozy but absolutely NOT cramped environment served up by an attentive but NOT hover-craft food server/consultant. You need to go to this little gem. No WAIT!!! If you are a self-proclaimed Foodie, by-passing this place is NOT an option..... It is a must!! Now I have to say that I may have had an advantage when it comes to Columbian cuisine. My son's girlfriend is from Columbia and I was delighted to have her order for me so that I could eat food that would be served in the "typical" Columbian home. I'm a GREAT fan of tasting food that best represents the country of origin and NOT the Americanized versions. If I had not had her input, our gracious server was MORE than happy to enlighten me as to the "ins and outs" of their menu.
Now here we come to the biggest problem I have with this review. We didn't just order... "OK, I'll have the #5 with an unsweetened iced tea". We ordered our food NOT from the appetizer section/"tapas like" but we went off track a little when it came to the main menu dishes. We added an egg over easy here or a sausage there. We mixed the sauces up a bit to go with our chosen food. OH!!!! and if you're adventurous enough to go off of the beaten trail, we weren't up-charged for every little addition or subtraction. It was almost like I was sitting at home and asked Mom to pop a little bacon or fatback on top of my grits!!!! No kidding. Oh!!!! And you have GOT to try their "bacon/fatback"... Haha .. I'd need to look at the menu to tell you what it's called but simply ASK if you'd like to give this item a whirl. Your food server is a well versed consultant... happy to guide you along.
After my experience, I could kick myself in the pants by concerning myself with parking space, there is more in the back... getting in and out of the parking lot since Pleasantburg can have knotty traffic, I took the back route out.... the little cafe couldn't possibly have a little bar to try some local adult beverages and tapas... they have one and you're welcome to order as you please.... AND THEN.. the building couldn't possibly have enough room for more than a few tables.....bbzzzzz... Wrong AGAIN!! There is plenty of space.
Usually, my reviews are more detail oriented but I found this jewel to be immensely satisfying, VERY filling and discovering a whole new taste/flavor gives me a good excuse to return often so that I can do the restaurant justice when describing the flavors, textures and nuances in a follow-up review. I didn't even get to los camerones or the simple fried yucca!!! I have a whole odessey before me before I can give peeps a more comprehensive "view" of my newest Favorite. I can hardly believe it was love at first bite!!!!! This jaded old palate has found a delicious and different taste!!!! I'm here to tell one and all .... This is a MUST NOT miss...
Read moreSacha’s is an ethnic Colombian restaurant which we enjoyed December 29th, 2023. I’d driven by Sacha’s many times over the past couple of years, recognizing the sign with the dog and the name but not knowing it was a Colombian restaurant. They have nothing indicating on the building or sign that says it is a Colombian restaurant. You pull into the parking lot off of a typically fast-traffic section of Pleasantburg Road and the entrance to the parking lot isn’t easy to see. We parked in front and had to walk down the drive to the middle of the right side of the building to enter. Once we entered we were greeted by friendly, smiling faces. They have a full bar, a load of TVs with sports on every one. The place was packed but the building has a higher capacity here than the exterior might imply. There is nothing fancy about Sacha’s. It is tasty, filling “stick to your bones” food and it was an adventure for me because the menu is loaded with choices, and loaded with food names that we weren’t familiar with. Sacha, you would be doing yourself a favor, and you’d be doing a favor for many of your customers too, if the next time you update your menu you would provide a description of Apreas, Patacones, etc. etc. etc. I love your menu, but I would rather not waste the time of your hard-working waitresses by asking for basic explanations that you could simply have printed on the menu. Please. We had Beef Empanadas as an appetizer. There were six small, pieces, very hot and tasty, fresh out of the fryer, stuffed with moist ground beef, accompanied with what looked like pickled chopped green spring onions and jalapenos. Tasty. My entre was Arepa Desmechada Chi Cho (Shredded Chi Cho) Encima which was Shredded beef with sauteed tomatoes and onions, fried fresh bacon and Colombian sausage. It was delicious, meat and veggies served on a tasty, flat piece of corn bread. My wife had a Frijoles Bowl: Grilled Steak, Fried Pork Belly, Pinto Beans, sweet plantain, corn kernels, potato chip bits, sauteed tomatoes and onions. She loved it. Each of these entrees were priced at $8.99, a bargain these days, and each table is equipped with 3 bottles of sauce: jalapeno, garlic, and a sweet ketchup-mayo type of sauce. I love sauces so this was a big plus. We would definitely return to...
Read moreYou know the place is authentic to their customer base when an abuelita comes sauntering past your table with her party, singing along to the lively Spanish music playing. I wasn't in the mood for authentic Colombian food, but for a Colombian spin on more "traditional dishes", so I went with the chicken Philly cheesesteak. The fries were fantastic, perfect with what I guess is Colombian shrimp sauce. I don't like ketchup with papas fritas in any setting, so it and the tomatillo sauce mixed together were amazing!
I waited to eat the cheesesteak so I could enjoy the fries at their freshest and was highly surprised that the cheesesteak was still so nuclear hot in the center. What a pick me up on a cold day!! I let my husband try a bite and it's been nearly a week since we visited and we still stop and go "wow, that was an amazing sandwich". The mayonnaise mixed into it had a hint of lime as well, which really lifted the flavor palette so well.
I also had the salchipapas and was VERY surprised at how well the flavors all meshed together. Don't turn up your nose to "hot dog tips"! Or do, and just miss out on a flavortown trip because you have hang-ups, we won't...
