Anchorage delivered an outstanding dining experience, from the moment we arrived to the last bite of dessert. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is impeccable, and the food? Absolutely phenomenal.
Appetizers:
Bread Service – The sourdough bread was incredibly fresh, with a satisfying crust and soft interior. The cultured butter and bourbon liver mousse were both excellent—perfectly spreadable and paired beautifully with the bread.
Louisiana Tuna Crudo – Bright, refreshing, and full of exciting textures. The balance of citrus, umami, and the crunch of black sesame seeds made every bite a delight.
Main Courses:
Brasstown Beef Flat Iron Steak – Cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the Covington sweet potatoes, kale, and rutabaga purée. The sauce was the silent powerhouse—deep umami-rich flavors with just an ever-so-slight hint of sourness, adding intrigue and balance.
Pappardelle Bolognese – A rich, full-bodied dish with perfectly cooked pasta and deeply flavorful veal & flank steak sauce. Every element was executed flawlessly.
Drinks:
French 75 – A beautifully balanced, crisp cocktail with Roku Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and sparkling wine. The citrus was bright but not overpowering, and the effervescence added just the right amount of elegance.
Mango Angel – A tropical and velvety drink made with Espolon Tequila, lime juice, spiced mango cordial, and egg white. The egg white foam gave it a smooth, silky mouthfeel, while the spiced mango added a subtle heat and complexity.
Dessert:
Pecan Entremet – A beautifully presented dessert with layers of nutty, creamy, and caramel flavors. The textures were just as impressive as the taste, with a crisp shortbread base, airy mousse, and a glossy, delicate finish.
Service & Atmosphere:
The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we felt well taken care of.
The restaurant itself is in a charming area with quirky shops, bars, and restaurants, making it a great destination for a night out.
Parking was surprisingly easy, which is always a plus.
Pricing:
The quality of the food, service, and ambiance justifies the pricing. Our meal, including two cocktails, two appetizers, two entrées, and a dessert, came to $127 before tip. Given the execution, portion sizes, and the use of high-quality, fresh, seasonal ingredients, the prices felt reasonable for a fine dining experience.
Missed Opportunity?:
If there’s one small thing that would have made the experience even better, it would have been the option for an after-dinner espresso. It wasn’t on the menu, but perhaps they offer it if requested.
Final Thoughts:
Anchorage is a must-visit for special occasions or anyone who appreciates seasonal, high-quality dining. The rotating menu means there’s always something new to experience, and we can’t wait to see what they...
Read moreThe first time my wife and I went- years ago- we enjoyed the experience. The food and service were excellent. Perhaps slightly overpriced, but fair for elevated dining. Last night, we wanted to share that experience with our son, who at 12 years old, loves to try new food. The Anchorage failed to deliver.
We did the tasting menu, which is now up to $80 per person. The food was OK, not excellent. I think my vegan plates were probably a bit better than the regular plates that my wife and son shared- based on their reactions. I imagine many people would enjoy the current menu, so I won't criticize it too much. I will just say that in several instances, the sauces overwhelmed the dish. And the current sharables at CAMP are much better.
The biggest failure was the service. The first round of dishes (3 plates) and bread came out as you would expect. There was around a 7-10 minute wait between that round and the second round (from the time they took our plates to the arrival of the next dishes). Acceptable. But the wait between the second and third round of dishes was roughly 40 minutes. 40 minutes.... 40.
By the time that food came out, our appetites had waned, to say the least, and we were quite frustrated. I ordered a non-alcoholic beer during the wait, and it took 30 minutes to receive- which really didn't even matter at that point. The manager issued an excuse-laden apology, paraphrased as follows, "I'm sorry for the slightly longer wait. We have a new staff member in the kitchen, and we are busy upstairs." He then comped the non-alcoholic beer and our son's coke. Awful response.
We used what little appetite we had to eat the perfectly average desert, boxed up the other food that we were too full to eat after waiting 40 minutes, and left. Before leaving, we had pleasant conversation with the waitress. At one point, she said she hoped we would come back and give them another chance. We stated that we definitely would not. When you spend over $100 per person, you should NEVER have that kind of experience. And if the restaurant puts you through that, they should know to do more than comp a $2 NA beer and a $1 coke (their cost). Terribly...
Read moreWe were greeted with a friendly and inviting smile right at the door. Our server's name was Mitchell, who provided excellent service and delivered the menu with an unpretentious tone, and furthered the experience with his shared knowledge of the menu. I hadn't really been to restaurants with ever-changing menus, my only experience is from my younger brother, an aspiring private chef, so I suppose I've already been given a show of my own. He told me once that restaurants that are worth a damn always have a new menu, freshly sourced ingredients for that day, and "NO WINGS AS AN APP," which was a great tip for the long term, when finding legitimate fine dining experiences. Anyway.
My wife and I started with Bread Service, which was baked from a shop down the road, served with House Cultured Butter and Bourbon Liver Mousse. I loved the mousse, very airy and smooth liver spread, and the butter was my wife's preferred favorite.
My wife ordered the Grilled Swordfish and I had the Lamb Sirloin. I began to understand portion sizing and artful placement from admiring the loved labor that made its way to the table. Everything that would he delectable has just enough for every bite, at least, that's my naive understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the lamb, medium rare, everything so purposeful and not left to chance on my plate. My wife also loved her assortment of decorative vegetables around her swordfish.
My wife had a glass of Rose, and I had something called "So Fresh, So Clean" which was an artsy Whiskey Sour, not to be super reductive, but saying that outloud was funny.
I admire the intent of the owner and his story. I appreciated it more knowing everything came from somewhere in the locality or the state in general. Thank you. It was a grand experience. I also want to thank the hostess, and the wait service that was very attentive to our table, but especially Mitchell,...
