Best burger in The Greater Greenville area

So I moved to Greenville about 8 years ago, and was immediately impressed by the lack of a good burger - anywhere. And so I've been trying to find a decent cheeseburger since moving here. Like really, all the places that advertise a "famous burger" of some sort of another: great work Janice, you put more toppings than anyone wants on some unseasoned bargain bin ground beef.

Nah, this place I've never heard of before tonight serves me a real simple looking burger, but it turns out to be the best tasting burger I've bought since moving here, and probably one of the top three I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned patties, some kind of great burger sauce. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

EDIT 12/16/23: Finally made it back here. Still the best burger in Greenville.

EDIT 7/18/24: made it to this side of town again. Got the Even Gooder Burger. It really is something special. Extraordinary, even.

EDIT 3/22/24: Wife and I grabbed dinner here before bumping it over to La Rue. Finally talked her into getting the Even Gooder Burger. Finally. Got to see the spark of joy in her eyes that burger always gives me. Nice! Also, don't know why I had previously rated the atmosphere at a 4. This has been corrected.

EDIT 8/22/25: This has been my 5th visit to this joint. Still sitting around, drinking one of the best Old Fashioneds I've ever had, which is a great end to what turned out to be literally (in the actual sense of the word) the best burger I've ever had. The Even Gooder Burger again (of course), but something about it was truly a cut above this time. This will sound weird, but I'd call this a joyous meal. ...

Bar Margaret (Bar Marg to us) is an eclectic bar/restaurant with a fantastic vibe in the West Village on Pendleton St. Very welcoming and warm, with great diverse artwork for sale in vibrant colors, black and white renderings of jazz greats, wood cuts of horror movie classics in the main restaurant. Don't forget to look UP in the rafters for my favorite part: vintage Halloween masks and skeletons perched watching us. The bar area is vibrating with color and I love the collection of vintage glassware the drinks are served in. The friendliest staff ever!! Very knowledgeable about food and drinks, not obtrusive and on point about reading your every need. Tonight my favorite drink is the black Manhattan. A mix of rye and Amaro with a beautifully boozy cherry, not too sweet. 2 days ago, I had the hot toddy which was perfect for these unseasonably cold days in Greenville!! Anything you can think of, they can deliver, if the ingredients are available. Now, my favorite food here is the homemade smash burgers, single or double, add ons as you wish. Do NOT FORGET A Bowl OF TRUFFLE FRIES. Perfectly crispy, not greasy, addicting. We had the blackberry Cabernet pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert that was divine. Flaky crust, beautiful berries tempered by the cab. Get it. I had the Amaro flight for dessert....try these beautiful digestives and you won't be sorry! The staff.... unbelievably attentive and...

Cool little eclectic place serving up some tasty craft cocktails. It was a joy to watch the fellas behind the bar - honestly I felt like this was all part of the experience, so if you can I recommend sitting at the bar area.

The food menu, although small was some of the best food we’ve had in a while. Nothing fancy, just super delicious, fresh and served hot. Smoked wings, “all the crunchy things” veggie salad, and the club Margaret was shared between two people. The wings were smoked to perfection, with your choice of sauce. We chose Buffalo and it was the perfect amount of smokiness & spiciness while still maintaining the crispy skin that just gives you that scrumptious little snap. The “ all the crunchy stuff” salad truly lived to its name - fresh packed full of all the crunchy veggies your little heart desires - broccoli, carrots, cukes, fennel, (and then some) served with your choice of their delicious dressings. Oh and that club Margaret - grilled chicken, served with a garlicky delicious pesto, fresh mozzarella, bacon and LTO - served on a perfectly toasted bread.

If your in the mood for a hella good cocktail, awesome food, amazing service all while listening to some funky tunes go give Bar...

First time at Bar Margaret. The aesthetic of the place is super cute and artsy. Love the vibe. The staff was very friendly. The drinks are strong, very liquor forward, and very odd, but in a good way. For example, their old fashion is made with tequila. They also have absinthe here, which is unique. There were some drinks I had I didn’t love, and some that were very good. My favorite were the amaretto sour and the lemon drop martini. The food was delicious. Their burgers are very good and so was their Korean chicken bites appetizer and their truffle fries. I will say their “lil piggies” aka pigs in a blanket was very small and not filling so this would be good if you’re not hungry but just want something to nibble on. Overall I would say this place is worth the trip and you’ll know if the vibe is for you or not. It’s definitely artsy / niche and is a unique concept. I liked it and will be back! Thanks for the awesome service!

I was really excited to try this place because of all the wonderful reviews, but my experience didn’t measure up. The truffle fries were very tasty and the server did give me a heads up on what size to order. I also got the hippie burger and the first two bites were good, but I guess all the toppings were stacked there bc the rest of it was very plain. I was really excited for that burger too bc I looove falafel. The dining room was really cool with lots of art and I really enjoyed that. The service was okay; I asked for no onions, but got them anyway and a drink was almost forgotten about before we reminded the server. I wish I had a different experience bc it does seem like lots of people really like this place.
