AUTHENTIC RECIPES passed down through generations of fantastic people from the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. My son & brother went with me on our virgin voyage to experience the well reviewed 10th Street location.
We sampled three of their SIGNATURE DISHES plus two desserts to capture the flavor+creativity that is VILLA VERDE! Every dish came in a lovely presentation but the SEAFOOD PAELLA was the "pinnacle of WOW" as it was CROWNED with a whole lobster!!! It was seated on a delicious bed of rice & peas that was generously scattered with: shrimp, mussels, calamari, & plantains as the base for the lobster. Drawn butter, lobster utensils, a hand washing cup, & a plate for "the lobster shell corpse" were provided.
I tried & shared my "cooked to perfection" Mahi Mahi in a delish sauce. (One of the Mom's is a chef in the kitchen prepping this very popular "secret family recipe")-plated with a formed tower of white rice & a bowl of beans- (Which I soon mixed into my rice!)- plus a delish avocado salad. My son selected the skirt steak- marinated in pineapple juice+ spices & covered in large shrimp. My son requested it cooked to medium rare perfection and we were not disappointed! Served with avocado salad, white rice tower & beans. The steak was FANTASTIC!!!
The desserts we selected were: fried cheese cake + tres leche (3 milks cake). Yummy w three spoons to share! FANTASTIC end to a fine meal.
Our ENTERTAINMENT was talking with Villa Verde staff/ family members as they gave us best suggestions from their menu based on our food preferences. We heard stories about "the old country" and mothers and discussed educational plans (I was a middle grades teacher.) for the tallest server!!!
We discussed the VILLA VERDE story: beautiful dream to goal + sweat equity & determination to food truck (beloved & swamped with hungry ECU PIRATE students) to 10th street restaurant to new location for "quick bites bowls" near the hospital/med school complex.
If you haven't been...look them up online, connect on facebook... GO & EXPERIENCE VILLA VERDE for yourself w someone(s) you love...your flavor palate, tummy & heart will leave happy & full...TRUST ME!!! GO...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo let me say that my boyfriend and I have lived in greenville for 3 years now and Villa Verde has been one of our favorite places to eat. Recently, as in the past three or four times we have come in the food was great but the service was trash. Each time we came in when it wasn't busy at all. This past time was the last straw for me. I shouldn't be seated and have to wait 10 minutes to get a menu when we are one of three tables. We had to ask the server 3 times for our drinks and when he never brought them we finally asked another server. Took 20 minutes in total to get our drinks. When we finally ordered our food I knew there was going to be a problem. The server did not speak English all that well and he did not write down our order and I had a feeling he was going to mess up. I asked him to repeat what we wanted back and he just looked at me. We repeated the order again and he STILL did not write it down. Needless to say our order was incorrect and when we asked about it he talked us in circles and tried to convince us that what we had was right. I know that menu inside and out and we know what we order. Luckily the food was amazing as it always is and so we didn't fuss. I know how incredible this place can be when they have good staff but recently I have been let down every time. Guys... PLEASE get some good servers in there. I will be back in a heart beat when you do. I would start with getting rid of the middle aged, male, waiter who does not speak English well. Bless his heart... he is nice but has no idea how to...

They sat us outside, which was fine, it was not too hot out. We sat at a couple high tops and to start, the chairs were sooo uncomfortable. But whatever , we are just there to eat right? Wrong... we waited about 30/45 minutes for drinks (I ordered water). They brought out our appetizers around the same time. I got the queso frito (fried cheese) and when it came out it was barely warm and too fried. I ordered the Churrasco steak and my fiancé ordered the Pernil Plate. Well, everyone started getting their food, albeit a while later but they were getting it. Even tables that came after us were getting their food. Everyone else in my party got their food and we were still waiting. Almost 2 hours later everyone else in my party had eaten and were paying. We still had not gotten our food. We told them to cancel our order. Apparently, our ticket had gone missing (excuse for not having our food out?). Needless to say, we didn't get to eat dinner and were extremely upset. Another couple in our party were also about to cancel their order (they hadn't gotten their food either by the ime we asked to cancel our order). The man had ordered Sancocho! It's soup! How can you not serve someone soup in 2 hours? Anyway. Our experience...
