My cousin and I wanted to check this place out since it just opened. First off, the decor looked really good! Like the aesthetics gave off ancient China type of vibes. For ordering, we had to order our food first and then receive them (just like at a fast food place). Service was nice and quick.
I got the Pork Ramen with the spicy “Hell” base ($8.95) & the 6- Piece Mix Soup Dumplings ($7.95). I also got the Fries and Drink combo that costed an extra $3. The dumplings were really good. Very juicy and could differentiate each flavor of each dumpling. They’re a bit small, but for the price it’s not bad at all. For the ramen, I had to switch mines with my cousin because originally she had ordered the same “Hell” base as mines but they gave her the “Tonkotsu” base instead, so I ate that one instead. We didn’t tell them anything since I didn’t mind trying it out, and since they just opened we give them a pass for that mistake. The Tonkotsu ramen was pretty good. Not the best, but not bad at all for the price. My cousin said the Hell base was good too, but it is not very spicy if you’re a huge spice fan.
Also, they serve everything to you via plastic instead of glass bowls and separated the noodles and the broth so we can mix it well ourselves. I am guessing that they want to operate in a fast food chain type of way instead of a restaurant type of way, which is okay with me. Overall, I’d give this place a chance. It’s not a typical ramen restaurant, but it’s something new in the West Bank that has nice aesthetics, quick service,...
Read moreMy friend and I decided to visit after noticing this place pop up.
We both ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, some Beef and Onion Dumplings, and two soft drinks.
Our total came out to an astounding $40 (ignoring the tip). To experiment, one of us got extra pork.
Our food was prepared fast, but that's about where the highlights end. The dumplings were good, nothing special. The garlic sauce that came with them was incredibly overpowering and downright awful. Definitely don't get that.
The Tonkotsu broth was very mild and didn't taste like much, which was surprising given how heavy a typical Tonkotsu is. Tonkotsu is among the richest and thickest broths, and this felt almost as clear and watery as instant ramen.
The noodles were mid. The added pork was small and felt overpriced (+$4) for what you got, but you really might as well, because the default bowl doesn't come with much to begin with.
The atmosphere is incredibly tacky, and feels like a weird mix of a Chinese restaurant and a Japanese Izakaya. Their chairs are uncomfortable and small. There's a million lanterns on the ceiling, and about eight packs of fake garlic and corn on the walls. You can see them everywhere.
Unsure of why this place has so many glowing reviews, definitely disagree and would hard avoid this place.
2/5 -- if you're craving soup, go to Pho Bang just down the street. If you're craving Ramen, go to Daiwa Marrero or Nobuko which is close by. They all do it better or at better...
Read moreThis is a great spot to try for a quick service dumpling and ramen experience. I lived in Japan, and this reminded me of the quick service spots in my town. The dumplings are varied and very evident of the flavors stated in the descriptions. The Mac n cheese ones were fun to try with general Tso’s dipping sauce. I also tried the soup dumplings, which weren’t very soupy, but still had a good flavor. My partner enjoyed the Cajun shrimp dumplings a lot.
My favorite thing, though, has to be the Tom yum ramen base with pork. For quick service/elevated instant ramen, it’s hard to beat. The Tom yum soup tastes like your standard thai takeout, and it pairs well with both types of noodles. The toppings are generous, and the added pork had a nice, charred flavor. I didn’t try the tonkotsu, because anything outside of Fukuoka disappoints.
Overall, this is a fun new spot to try. They’re working out some kinks, particularly regarding high volume orders, but it’s a good little place to get a bite to eat. Just don’t come in expecting authentic ramen…it’s quick...
