2 stars, first time here off a strong recommendation. I ordered a hoagie, house pickle and house chips from the kiosk. I was lead to believe by the wording that free "house chips" implies the chips were made in house. Unfortunately I was wrong. I watched my sandwich get made, and subsequently get put aside for a while. Patiently, I watched it sit in the window. "They're making my house chips," I thought, as I got excited to try a hoagie accented with fresh, made-to-order potato chips. I opened my bag after leaving the premises to find I was wrong, I was given a fun-size bag of bland Herrs chips with like, 7 chips inside. Granted, they were free, but this only added to my disappointment when the hoagie was nothing to write home about. The bread of a sandwich is like the drummer of a band, doesn't matter how good the rest of the members are if there's no steady beat holding it together. Maybe since it was the end of the day the bread was not fresh, but I was not wowed. I've had a better roll at Wawa. Hardly any mayo at all. A nearly unnoticeable amount was determined to be present after I had to open the sandwich and scrape off most of the lettuce to check if they forgot. I was hungry so I ate it all, it wasn't exactly bad, just nothing more special than that of what I could prepare for myself at home. The pickle was fine though, albeit it tasted more like a half-sour than a full-sour. I take no pleasure in leaving negative reviews but after this meal, there was a lot left...
Read moreFirst I will start with the negative changes at The Bread Board. My family and I have been coming here for a decade and have loved the food. Just recently, and this may be a sad result of COVID, they have become a take out only, hipster style restaurant. They have bar stools but can’t accommodate seating at this time. The part of the building that used to be their dining area is now for sale. There are no tables and is not family friendly whatsoever, even when they do allow indoor dining. My kids were devastated when I told them today. I’m really sad to see such a gem in Haddonfield turn to an ordinary, run of the mill, sandwich joint. Unfortunately for Bread Board, there are other places that offer better sandwiches at better prices (Carmens Deli for sure in Bellmawr). I went to Bread Board for the ambiance, the environment, and the experience.
The sandwich I got was my personal favorite, the D-money. It has breaded chicken, tomato, bacon, cheese, and lettuce. It was on par as a good sandwich. This is one of their really only unique sandwiches. If it weren’t for this I wouldn’t come here. The hoagies are pedestrian at best.
Sad to see the best of the Bread Board be a...
Read moreGoogle recommended I should try this place based on the good reviews, so I listened to my internet overlords. We tried the salad bar / soup combo. It was good enough. The salad and toppings were typical of a salad bar and seemed relatively fresh, although the hard boiled eggs were overcooked w/ grey ring and the chicken appeared possibly dry/overcooked also. The soups were fine. It was about $12 per person which I thought was a fair price for the offerings (all you can eat salad + soup + fountain drink).
Overall it was decent, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. I would hesitate to believe this, as another reviewer states, truly is the "best sandwich place in the area, hands down." But my experience was good enough to consider going back to give the sandwiches a try. The staff was nice and...
