Central Tacos: A Decline in Quality Amid Rising Prices
Central Tacos used to be a gem in the city, known for its flavorful entrees and generous portions that left diners satisfied and eager to return. However, recent changes have significantly altered the dining experience, leaving long-time patrons disappointed.
In the past, the menu was filled with diverse and well-crafted options, from hearty tacos to mouthwatering burritos, all offered at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was lively, and the food was always worth every penny. It was a go-to spot for both casual meals and special occasions.
Unfortunately, the impact of inflation has been felt deeply at Central Tacos. Prices have soared, and portion sizes have dwindled. What was once a satisfying meal is now barely enough to quell your hunger. Tacos that used to be bursting with fillings are now meager, and sides that complemented the dishes perfectly have either shrunk or vanished from the menu entirely.
The most striking change is how the restaurant now labels its portions. What used to be considered appetizers are now being marketed as entrees, a clear indication of the downsizing that has occurred. Paying entree prices for what amounts to a small snack feels like a poor value, and it's hard not to feel shortchanged.
While the quality of the food remains relatively good, it's overshadowed by the noticeable decrease in portion sizes and the steep increase in prices. Many loyal customers are finding it hard to justify the cost for what they receive, and the overall experience has lost its charm.
Central Tacos still holds a place in the hearts of those who remember its former glory, but unless changes are made to address these issues, it risks losing its faithful following. It's a classic case of a beloved establishment struggling to maintain its standards in the face of economic pressures. Here's hoping they can find a way to strike a balance and bring back the value and satisfaction that once made...
Read moreMy husband and I sat at the bar. We were greeted by the male bartender who went above and beyond checking in with us throughout our time and took great care of us. Our first round of drinks he made for us were great. Apps came out quick and the food presentation is done well. Second round of drinks we ordered from the female bartender and I was told that a specific ingredient in one of the key cocktails I ordered they were out of, which I ended up getting the drink anyway but was still charged for the speciality cocktail. The female bartender really made us feel like she had better things to do then wait on us, like be back at what appeared to be the server gathering table where they sit after their shift to hang out. We were going to stay for another round but decided against it after waiting 15 min at which time there was absolutely no one behind the bar at all. When we did finally get to ask for the check, she dropped it off to us head completely turned away while still in conversation with other employees and would not acknowledge us or thank us for dining. I worked for pj Whelihans for 8 years and this is the worst service I’ve received at a PJW group location. I have never given under a 20% tip but she just truly didn’t deserve it. If we could have just give the male bar tender the tip, we would have but I know they pool tips. This was our second time at this location and we will not be returning. When you choose to go out for dinner and drinks you want to know that the food is going to be good, cool atmosphere and cleanliness is up to par, and you have a great dining experience BECAUSE of the staff which makes it worth the money spent. Staff can make or break an experience and we were more than disappointed in the...
Read moreEDIT: My review below was from 1 year ago. I have returned to Central Taco since then, and they have really turned it around! The tacos are back to being double wrapped and are filled with everything one would expect. I'm glad that Central Taco is back to being the best place to celebrate and hang out!
Central Taco has been my favorite local spot since I moved here 4 years ago. The queso is perfect, the shrimp tacos are to die for, and the atmosphere is cozy yet lively. The margaritas are second to none. Last night, though, there was a glaring decline in food quality that overshadowed the experience. The corn tortillas are no longer double-stacked, resulting in picking up your taco and all its contents being left behind. This is immediately after it’s served. I thought I was in an Indian restaurant ripping apart bits of soggy tortilla to salvage bits of my al pastor. My girlfriend also had a singular shrimp in one of her tacos. I was even more disappointed that the price increase was not in an effort to maintain the excellence I have come to expect of Central Taco. I raised my concerns to the kind waitress at the end of the meal. She said that multiple customers have complained about this. She recommended the flour tortillas as a sturdier option, but it does not excuse the fact that a large portion of the menu items are not functional. I hope that when my family returns to Central Taco, the owners will have heeded the warnings instead of continuing to turn a blind eye. It would be a huge loss to us if we could no longer enjoy our favorite Mexican place because they refuse to serve...
