Hartles Subs — Restaurant in Hagerstown

Actually I am hard pressed to give Hartle's on South Potomac Street even one star after my visit today on Wed, July 1, 2020. The gal who took my order was extremely RUDE. In addition she was not wearing a MASK and when I asked her where her mask was she informed me she did not have one, I asked why and stated that it was by order of the Govern of Maryland that all employees were to wear mask as well as the customers. She rudely informed me that she nor any of Hartle's staff wear mask and I was actually free to come behind the counter to see that they were NOT wearing mask. She then stepped away from the counter and went behind to make up orders with the other staff members. This made me very uneasy as I felt that she could be doing something not very nice to the subs being made for my order. Three other customers then placed orders and all of them received their orders before me. When my order was brought out I had ordered a whole cold cut and there was only a 1/2 in the bag. The other 1/2 was then made but it had so much hot on it that the paper wrapping was saturated with the pepper juice by the tie I got home. The person eating it could barely eat it because there was so much hot relish on it. I spent $32 there but this will be the last $32 they get from this gal if this is how they want to treat their customers and disregard the orders the Governor has in place...

The food is fantastic but the quality is slowly declining. Every time I go it takes longer and longer to get my order. Even if I order online in advance I still have to wait 15 minutes. I just went today and ordered to subs and some onion rings. They messed up both subs. One didn't have the relish Hots and the other didn't have the lettuce or mayonnaise. They also forgot my onion rings and I had to walk all the way back and when I did the woman put my onion rings in the fryer and then went out for a smoke break so they were extremely crunchy. I slowly get more and more disappointed every time I go back which sucks because the store has amazing potential and great tasting food. The short brunette woman does an awesome job and works hard but the other two employees who were blond or absolute klutzes and need to be fired. I've been going to this place for the past three years. I pop in a couple of times a week. I only eat a half a sub at a time so I get 4 lunches out of two whole subs.

I've never ever been disappointed with their food. When I order online and stop in to pick up my order they see me and hand me my order without making me wait (because there's usually a queue).

The place could certainly do with a bit of a makeover but I guess the owner isn't too bothered.

The food and the staff especially the short woman and bloke with glasses are fantastic (I don't know their names but they know mine).
