LA MEXICANA — Restaurant in Haines City

Little Haines city gem. As my first experience here just driving by and noticed figured I would give it a try. Sooooo glad I did!! Isby was my waitress and she was on the ball. They bring out the chips n salsa standard for 99% of Mexican restaurants. Ohh my what a pleasant surprise the chips “Homemade” yet not your standard flat chip it was crispy and yet airy in the middle and the salsa is I think the best salsa I have ever had. It was tangy and had a sweet flavor to it and topped with a cilantro garnish I couldn’t get enough of I had to have a second bowl!!

Now my appetizer I had never had elote before but gave it a shot after Isby had recommended it said it’s a must try. It was definitely a different texture with the cheese on it but boy was it delicious!! All those different flavors mesh well together.

As my meal went I got the chicken chimichanga with just rice It comes with beans on the plate and in the chimi but I opted for none Chicken was moist and flavorful outer crust was crispy just the way they should be. The rice had a hint of garlic flavor which I liked about it

All and all I thought everything was great for the price. I will definitely be back and bring some people with me. 2 thumbs up!!

Ok back again the next night. Had myself another elote which again was really delish. Also tried a ceviche shrimp tostada Excellent was crispy had really good flavors. And for dinner I went with the chile rellenos w/chicken!! Super good little spice sauce was great chicken was good in the middle n stuffed with cheese. I know I’m comin back...

I LOVE this Mexican place! I’d actually go as far as saying it’s my favorite of all time. I have been going here 10+ years! It’s a staple for my family. The food is amazing and always consistent in quality and taste. The chicken tacos are to die forrrr! And you have to try the Horchata.

I even work in the area and when people ask for recommendations to eat…I without hesitation recommend this place. I have taken so many people to this restaurant!!!

Now why is my review missing two stars? The service is very very inconsistent. I’m bad with names but there is an AMAZING server who I have left a 25% tip to because she is THAT amazing. BUT, I came tonight and had the worst service and service that honestly makes me question the next time I will be back here. I love the food and I want to support this restaurant always but having an experience like this brings the vibe down so much! And to have such horrible service and be FORCED to leave an 18% tip? No wonder she didn’t attend to us! She knew she was walking away with a good tip either way. I waited 20 minutes for the check only to have to give up and seek someone out to pay up front. I always tip and never believe in leaving no tip but I can’t excuse being made to leave such a high tip when you’re very unhappy with...

We went here tonight with my mom and husband and child. And it was amazing! Being Mexican we were so enthusiastic to try some of our favorites but this place was outstanding!

We arrived and were placed right away. We got chips with salsa and ordered drinks. We got some pina colada’s.

Our server Maria was fantastic!

The pina coladas were non-alcoholic and my 3 year old loved it!

We ordered guacamole and corn and it was sooooooooooooooo good!

We placed orders for tacos for my mom. Being Mexican she grew up on eating the head of a cow 😂 and she loved it!

My kid got rice and beans. He loves cheese. Next time we’ll ask for more cheese.

My husband ordered a burrito with half chicken and half steak. He loved it!

I asked if I could have barbacoa in my chimichanga and they said YES and YO… when I went to slice my first bite… I was able to eat half of it but my left side of my mouth drooled! It DROOLED!!!!

We ordered actual margaritas and the taste was amazing! Perfect balance of ice to liquor to whatever they put in margaritas…

And then… and THEN… they have their own homemade ice creams and ice cream bars.
