Sushi Palace — Restaurant in Hamden

Sushi Palace has 3 locations: Hamden, North Haven, and Orange. Hamden is my least favorite!

The service here is really bad, and I empathize with servers and tip well despite the attitude but it just ruins the point of wanting to go out for dinner. Compared to the location in Orange they have some similar items but the quality doesn't compare. The sashimi is okay but the rolls aren't special.

It would be 3 stars for being decent AYCE, but the service knocks it 2 stars for me. The waitress refused to sit us outside during Covid. Luckily the next group after us took matters into their own hands and sat outside themselves. When we were seated we were sat right in between two other tables, and the place is small to begin with so if you have any anxiety about social distancing, skip this place because they haven't adapted seating at all. Service was really slow and the waitress was uncooperative. We explained we had another person coming and wanted to get a paper menu to order ahead for them, she refused to give it to us. Fine. Well, when our person finally arrive, she STILL refused to give us a paper menu. She made a point to wait until we finished all our food, which honestly, I prefer to get charged extra for any rolls than treated like a child and fight with the waitress all night. So anyways we had to wait all this time to order food for our friend who was late. Her tantrum basically meant she was putting an order in super close to closing time, and since the overall service is slow, it's probably why the place was nowhere near being ready for closing well after 10pm. I like that their eat all you can buffet is fresh per order and not those displayed and when shelf life unknown places. Reasonably priced $25ish total

I went in a low volume day (Tue lunchtime) The fried tofu was nicely cooked and the sauce we perfect with it. The shrimp and sweet potato tempura was nice though the tempura sauce doesn't taste like most places and they don't give much sauce even if you order x no. of tempura on a plate. Shrimp size is not jumbo, but acceptable. The variety of specialty sushi options is wide enough and yummy. I personally love the sashimi options. My first time to try the red clam, it was not bad. The usual tuna & salmon was fresh, as always :) One of the sushi jr was deboning a salmon. Miso soup was nice. The beef rice was not bad either.

They have a limited dessert list, but I didn't have time that day to have some ice cream. Next time.

Very limited parking, so it's mostly come very early or after lunch rush.

Overall, The food is pretty good.. HOWEVER, as much as I want to give them 4+ stars - the CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!! The waitresses are terribly slow AND NEGLECTFUL when it comes to actually serving you smh. It’s very unacceptable for them to never check in you to make sure everything is good and if you need any food or drink to replenish at your table. The waitress never checked on my party’s table, and she didn’t serve everything we actually ordered. (It took over 30min for the seafood salad to come to the table and multiple dishes were not served.) Even when the restaurant is empty, the neglect and consistent abandonment to our table from multiple visits there is the reason for this unfortunate review. It’s a shame that I have to hound them with my arm raised to yell “excuse me!” to grab their attention as they walk fast, right past us and don’t even look in your direction..
