There should be a negative star rating for this review. My husband and I explored the online menu before making reservations. However, the online menu, the menu one accesses when searching "Grano Hamilton Missoula" does NOT belong to this restaurant. We learned this fact directly from staff after being seated, when we questioned why the severely limited in-house menu did not match the greater options online menu we had previewed. We were told that we were not the first customers to make this mistake, that other customers had been led to Grano as we had by a menu that did not sync with the restaurant. HOW can a restaurant ignore such incorrect linking? How can a restaurant not address such a problem THE VERY FIRST TIME a customer informs them of such a misleading link? We tried to make the best of the situation, we stayed, and my husband chose and ate a very mediocre pasta dish. Sadly, I ate NOTHING. Correction, I ordered the Caesar Salad, my "go to safe choice" when nothing on a menu works, yet this salad was absolutely AWFUL. Several different wait staff spoke with me about not eating, yet despite apologies, we were CHARGED for my uneaten dinner. What utterly horrendous customer service from a new restaurant. We paid our $70 dollar bill -yes my husband tipped because he has class - but that bill equaled 2 THIMBLES of wine, one pasta, one inedible salad, and one absurdly expensive side of bread which only my husband ate, since I do not eat gluten. We would never try this restaurant again. Nor its local counterpart. Although the wait staff were pleasant, the food was beyond disappointing. Ultimately, being charged for uneaten food is what made the experience the...
Read moreUpdate 06-2025: The last couple of times we have been to Grano, the food has been less than stellar. Thus, I have reduced my food rating from 5 stars to 3. :-(
The first few times the foccaccia was amazing - it was made in a giant sheet and so tender and tasty. Every time since then it gets smaller, harder and less tasty. The last time, it was overcooked and no longer light and fluffy. Same sadness with the pizza. The first few times I literally dreamed about it. The last time - it was barely recognizable. Not enough basil on the margarita, the price of the pepperoni was laughable but I paid it anyway and then it was underwhelming in taste. And lastly, the chopped salad was so yummy the first two times we had it but now it's just a shadow of itself by skimping on the meat and cheese and it wasn't even chopped the last time. I understand making changes, but the food is suffering and I no longer feel any excitement about going to Grano and probably won't any time soon. Also, still waiting for the kitchen to sort out its timing issues. It's not enjoyable to have every dish you ordered show up at your table all at once. On the plus side, the wait staff has only gotten better and better since opening. We have been here twice now and their margarita pizza has officially become my favorite pizza and I have designated it the best in Montana. The focaccia is also amazing. Everything is so fresh and tasty. The service is friendly. We will be...
Read moreReservation Only- Hostess sat us quickly, server walked by 5-6 times before acknowledging us. Looked to be 2 servers and 2 runners, assisting with clearing tables. Tight quarters for seating, I understand the narrow venue but I feel personal space is needed in order to enjoy the experience of dining. Cesar was excellent, shocked by the absence of a pepper mill by the staff. I was given a small cup of fine black pepper, confused on that one at this level of dining. Chicken Alfredo was nicely plated and my wife enjoyed 1/2 of it, sizable portion. My lasagna was interesting to me because of its flavor and components.. The sauce seemed ok, but lacked the depth or punch that I was hoping for with this dish. The pasta did have good flavor, it was lacking the “good stuff” in between the heavier ricotta and egg. Multiple layers but definitely a lighter version or rendition of lasagna.. We sampled the 3 desserts, the lemon olive oil takes 1st place! Overall I’d say it’s decent and I understand that operating a restaurant is a bit more complicated than most customers comprehend.BUT… If these dishes had just a bit more passion they’d POP, which is what separates the average from the unforgettable… $165 for two, no...
