I wanted to love The Stone Tavern. But I was disappointed. From the time I read about it, I was so looking forward to its opening. I was excited about the quintessential British pub atmosphere and food to be had there.
We had visited London a few years back, and to be truthful, we did not experience at Stone Tavern what I had hoped we would. The building from the outside seemed perfect. But once we stepped inside, it was just like any other place one could find anywhere. There were at least six TVs in the small restaurant/bar space. I never saw one TV in any pub in London. I believe pubs are to be places for gathering and comradery. There was not a thing that made me feel I was in a London pub. I didn't mind the small space. It could have been comfortable and cozy with the right decor.
We shared "hanky pankies" for our appetizer. They were ground beef and sausage with cheese on crisp rye toast points. These were tasty.
I ordered fish and chips. Disappointing. I had never had fish with a tough spot I couldn't chew, until now. And for the most part, I was tasting uncooked batter inside the crisp outside. The mushy peas were good, but the chips tasted as though they had sat a while before being served.
My husband had the bangers and mash with peas and onion gravy. It was "adequate".
We had the "warm brown butter cake" for dessert, and that was delicious and the best part of the meal.
The staff was friendly, and I wish I could have given at least four stars, but it just wasn't what I expected, though there were a couple good food items, but nothing reminiscent of the experience of the British pubs we frequented...
Read moreWe checked Stone Tavern out today. Meme was our server/bartender, she was so genuine and sweet. We tried Anna's pretzel and it was pretty good, the beer cheese, mustard and horseradish cheese dip were so good with it. We also ordered the Shepherds Stones, they were flavorful but slightly underdone on the dough, not to the point of being inedible thankfully. My husband ordered the Patty Melt with fries and it was phenomenal. I ordered the fish and chips, which was decent. Similar to the stones the batter was slightly doughy near the fish, however the fish itself was nice and flaky, the tartar sauce was an interesting take and nice balance to the fish, while the coleslaw would be a hard pass for me in the future. Overall we enjoyed the meal and the will be back to try other things that sounded good...
Read moreWe have been here twice since it opened. First time. Food was really good. Pretty busy, service was good. Today we had a new server and he told us he was new. I don't think that was a good idea, so my husband's food was fine. Mine came out. Not what I ordered. It took a while to get the food and the place wasn't busy so I don't know if the grill wasn't fired up or what. We ordered burgers. He apologized and my husband was done with his meal by the time I got mine. Which is what I expected because we had waited so long for the burgers to begin with. They did take half price off of my meal which I thought was very nice of them to do that. We did not ask for a discount. My burger was definitely not worth the 15 dollar price. It was good but was like a Wendy's burger. Fish and patty melt are...
