Your experience will differ from mine! I really wanted to like this spot. The reviews were really good but it just didn't add up. I got to the counter and ordered the cheesesteak with provolone. The guy at the left of the counter was freshly making the cheesesteaks on the grill, or so I thought. After ordering, I walked to the table and before I sat down, the cashier said my food is ready. I was shocked at the speed it was prepared. As I got back to the table with the sandwich, I noticed how dry the meat looked and I couldn't see any melted cheese on top of the meat. I decided to bite into it and realized that they placed the cheese into the bread then placed the meat on top of it. Shocked again because the meat was warm, not hot as it should be coming straight off the griddle, which means the cheese didn't melt (as you can see in the pic). I tried adding melted cheese from the cheese fries I ordered and ketchup to make it more moist to handle but it was so dry. The bread made it worst, it wasn't toasted and it was like chewing rubber. I was visiting some caves about 20 mins away and didn't eat all day and I had a 2 hour drive home. If the situation was different, I'd dump it and go somewhere else. My conclusion is that they pregrilled the meat and set it aside on a warm part of the griddle and use that as customers come in, hence the warm dry meat, the fast prep of the sandwich and the unmelted cheese. A cheesesteak should be steaming hot off the griddle with melted cheese and a warm or toasted Hoagie Roll. This was my experience, yours may...
Read moreOn Thursday, 8/21/25, after a short NJ vacation, I decided to go to the famous White House Sub sandwich shop on Artic Avenue in Atlantic City. In many reviews they have been touted as the best sandwich shop in NJ. I decided to order the Philadelphia style steak sandwich. When the sandwich was delivered to me, I noticed that the sub style roll was falling apart as well as starting to get soggy. This is the same roll that they use for subs. As I was getting closer to eating the second half of the sandwich the roll was definitely breaking apart, getting more soggy and mushy. I ordered my steak sandwich with grilled onions, which they slice into rings and also use on subs as well. The problem with that is that the onions had no structure to them and were pretty well mushed up with the meat. The roll comes from a bakery by the name of Formica Bread, which is located just one half block from the White House Sub shop. The meat was good but overall, the steak sandwich would get a rating of maybe 6 for me. I am from the Philadelphia area and have eaten at least 6 dozen steak sandwich shops over the years. The steak sandwich at the Philadelphia Steaks & Subs at 4401 Carlisle Pike in Camp Hill rates much higher than the ones at White House Sub. I rate it right up there with the best Philadelphia subs I have had. They use Liscio’s rolls that hold up great. The roll is slightly chewy, which is good. The onions are cubed and hold up their structure well. They get a 9.9 from me, because I know there is always somebody out there...
Read moreI love the food, have gone here for years. Always has been a great experience until recently. I’ve tried to place an order by phone twice on 2 different days and the same guy answers the phone and is very very rude. As your trying to place your order he is yelling at you on the phone as to what’s next, as in rushing you and talking over you. This happened both times, doesn’t make you feel welcome at all as a customer or comfortable.
After the second time this happened I asked to speak with the owner, I was told that Dave is the owner was in the back and was busy, wasn’t allowed to speak to the owner or place my order. I told the guy that answered the phone that he should really evaluate his tone because he comes off very rude to people and sometimes needs to listen to what people are ordering instead of yelling and talking over the customer. He told me he can’t here very well on the phone. If this is the case then they may want to look into taking calls not on the floor where it’s loud or check their phone system, because as a customer doesn’t feel good to continue doing business with a place that comes off very rude. What’s astonishing is when I told him that his tone and yelling is not appropriate and that he was being very rude he toned down, which makes me believe that this happens all the time when he’s taking orders over the phone and he’s well aware of his tone. They may want to look into this because if it’s happened to me 2 times in a week, it’s definitely happening to other...
