Golden Leaf Restaurant — Restaurant in Hampstead

It saddens me that, after eight years of lowish priced, mediocre Chinese food I will have to find a new place to go. We had ordered, as we always do, similar food as a weekend treat. We order to pick it up. Delivery has never been an option as the woman tasked to this smokes heavily and frankly, I don't want food I am going to eat in her car, hands or anyway near her. I was tasked with the picking up. I arrive to find the food was $43.76. I did not place the order but that seemed a bit high for what we got. When I arrived home I of course asked why the food was so much? What did my wife order that was so expensive? It seems the Online menu prices are horribly lower than reality. My money is based on reality. What should have been $26. was now $43. I returned to inquire how this was. The 0wner(?) was angry at me the moment I walked in. I assume she knew why I had returned. As irritated as she was she did show me the bill on screen. All the items we ordered had increased tremendously. I understand that prices have gone up BUT the menu in the store (This is NOT a restaurant, it is more grimy and poorly lit than truck stops I have visited, heck, I got some the finest fried chicken at one in S.Carolina certainly not at Golden Leave) claims much lower prices. When I mentioned that the prices on the menu or online were lower I was yelled at "Those are the OLD prices!" My long time patronage had no sway, or influence. Nasty food! My husband and I got a combination plate for a total of $28.++ the portion of food was the smallest i've ever seen. I ordered Pork fried rice, chicken wings and chicken chow mein. One small scoop of pork fried rice, it didn't even fill the small section of the divided foam container it came in. It came with ONE chicken wing and it wasn't fresh by far, perhaps they reheated it several times. The chicken chow mein was good except for the chow mein noodles, I counted them, 10 dry noodles. They gave us one duck sauce to share and it wasn't even enough for one of us. I asked for extra and she looked at me and said we had pleanty and it would cost us more money. We left the food there on the table and walked out. NEVER EVER...

My family just placed a $350 order (because our family member was home for the weekend FL and there's NO good Chinese food down there) and absolutely every single thing was on point. It was hot, fresh, perfectly cooked, they will make any changes or substitutions you ask for. Not one thing was less than excellent!! Mae is the nicest person to deal with and remembers long time customers by name. She always asks about your family and is beyond polite every time. Prices have always been fair. Kitchen is open so you can see how immaculate it is. Probably one of the only chinese food places with clean bathrooms! Best in the area unless you want to drive to...
