Lupe's 55 Cantina Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Hampton

Best thing is the sangria. The food is good but the guac is wicked expensive. The waitress did two things that were really bad.

First, my son and his friends wanted to be independent so we gave them money and let them order for themselves. They didn't know that each small container of guac was an additional cost So when the waitress asked "would you like more?" without telling them that each serving is an additional charge, they said yes and the bill for guac alone was at $17 by the time they were done. She also asked if they wanted more chips, which were also an additional charge that they didn't expect. We nicely mentioned that they didn't know that each container was $3-$5 and she called it a learning experience. Not good.

Second, the waitress felt the need to give us her political commentary on the price of guac being due to "our lovely President" alienating the Mexican government. Please. Never mind her complete ignorance with the economic factors influencing the price of avocados, don't expect that all of your patrons hold to the same side of the political spectrum as you. I finally got to this restaurant after hearing so many good things about it! I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Tacos which tasted light & creamy. A ton of flavor happens with every bite. A couple of others in my party ordered the O.G. Burrito, which looked like 3 meals itself. Another ordered the fish taco, which smelled wonderful so absolutely you know it's fresh fish. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, most places won't do mocktails but I still ask.. pleasantly, they do!! LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT.. delectably fresh Churros, a fried taco shell with strawberry & mango sauce, all drizzled with honey. The S'mores Empanada was heavenly and my personal favorite! Don't go expecting fast food service. This is fresh food cooked to order. Our waitress Lacey was super informed, and with any questions she made sure we got the answers. Someone in our party has specific allergies, and she made sure that person had informed choices and confidence in receiving her order. Update review 2022 from excellent to poor and disappointed. Sorry your food is not consistent. Ordered same food we ordered last year. Tonight the. Vampire tacos were salty, greasy, cold and lacked fresh favor. The rice was dry and hard. Order a frozen strawberry margarita, it was absolutely terrible.. the worst. All chopped ice, laced with a faint strawberry favor, and no taste of tequila. It could not be sipped through a straw due to all the ice chunks and the drink was not good. So ordered a bottled water and left the margarita. Plastic forks and knives, lights very bright for late dinner crowd. Unfortunately not the experienced we had in the past that we were looking forward to.
