This motel REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME SERVICE AND A ROOM AND DISCRIMINATES AGAINST PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND SERVICE DOGS UNDER ADA LAW. Here’s my story.
On Friday, August 30th 2024 around 4pm, I was in vacation in Hampton Beach NH (I’m Canadian) and looking for a room so I could stay one more night. So my friend (who is an US citizen and NH resident) was searching a room for me. He finally talk with the manager name Joe at the Main Sail Motel (40 Ashworth Ave. Hampton NH 03842) in Hampton beach, who told him he had a cancellation/no show from a booking made on expedia which had made no deposit, so that yes, he had a room available for me on this night but I needed to go there and pay him cash for the room, for the price we agreed on. Everything was set up and confirm by phone, I went back there with my friend that arranges the meeting for me to pay cash for the room. I walked in the office with my service dog. I have a cardiac myopathy disease and an internal defibrillator. I need my service dog to help me in my day to day life especially to pull me uphill or upstairs because I don’t have the physical/cardiac capability to “force” in an anaerobic effort. I also take a lot of medication for this cardiomyopathy I need her to keep me upwards when I sometimes loose my balance/dizziness so I can hold on to her and her harness not to fall. And she can also detect my arythmia so she's also a medical service dog. Anyway, Joe was there, and when he saw me entering with my service dog he said he didn’t accept dog, I explain to him that it was a service dog, anyway she had all her equipment on her (harness and card) identifying her as a service dog, he said he didn’t care he couldn’t accept me with a dog, I explain to him my cardiac problem and what she did for me, even told him she had her card and I could proved that she was a real service dog, he said he didn’t care, they don’t accept dogs, I than explain to him that, by Law, he could not refused, he had the obligation to accept me and my identify and registered service dog, he was maintaining that “No” there was nothing to do, and has I was insisting that he could not just say no and legally he could not deny me the room because I had a Service dog, he then change his story and literally said : “Anyway, I don’t have any room available for you, we are full booked”, so with that, suddenly he changed his version and said he had no room available now! On that note, I couldn’t do anything more since he basically “covered” himself by saying no room available and I didn’t have a written room booked with them cause the booking deal was made last minute by my friend by phone. So I had to leave and come back to canada cause I had no room to sleep in at that point.
Even though I’m a Canadian, i think it's important for me to write and tell what happen to me with this Mainsail motel so that my rights and mostly the futur rights to you, American with disabilities, was infringed and that this places discriminates against people with disabilities and service dogs. I’m mostly thinking about veterans too that have ptsd dogs and that I respect very much even though USA is not my country (I was part of the thin blue line before I was hurt on the job and my heart as now severe damaged so i’m medically retired now), so I do recognized the services provided by all those people that fights for their country and their rights and I don’t want them to have to fight more with those kind of discriminatory places just because they now have the need for a service dog. So I think, doing a review and complaint, even though I’m Canadian, can help them (veterans) and all the other deserving Americans out there to get their rights respected. So pass the word about this place Windsail Motel in Hampton Beach NH = discrimination and no respected of ADA laws and civil rights of American and Canadian...

Read moreTHIS IS THE 1ST HALF TO MY REVIEW What has happened to our beloved Mainsail cottages? For 45 yrs. It has been our home away from home for 10 days at the end of August until Labor Day. The original owners when we started going there was Chet & Diane. They were very fussy & strict with rules and policies for the guest’s, which was good because it was meant to be a family friendly resort. They kept the place in pristine condition with 5 or 6 college age youth constantly cleaning the grounds , keeping the pool clean and tending to the beautiful flower pots that they had hanging from each and every porch. And at night they had one of them sit on the park bench in front of the office and guard the place. All this is what made it well known on the beach to be the Best place to stay at. They did not allow any riffraff to stay and cause trouble. When Dave & Kara bought the place they carried on the tradition and policies of Diane & Chet and continued to make it the most desirable place to stay on in Hampton Beach. This past year Sol Lupoli, the owner of the casino on the boardwalk, purchased the hotel and cottages,. Not exactly in the family friendly business. You will notice 90% of the good reviews are from last year or prior before new ownership. As I said my best friend of 46 years along with her family and mine grew up together going every summer for that end of summer week and for the past 15 years have stayed in the same cottage. This past March my friend lost her battle to cancer and died in March 2024. I received a call from the new owner around that time to see if I was renting the cottage this year. I told him “ No my best friend that I went with every year passed away. But I told him I think her children are interested in renting it. So I called my friend’s son and daughter-in-law and told her to call right ways if she was interested. She called him immediately booked it. She verified with him “ Now this is the same cottage my family has been in every year correct? It has 3 bedrooms and is unit C2 the single cottage across from the pool.” She was assured it was the same cottage. He said as you know our policy is to collect ½ the rent to hold the cottage. And then he told her that she had to pay & $800. now. And she did so assuming that the total rent fee was $1,600. For the week. When she arrived on Saturday August 24th 2024 they had changed her unit to a second floor apartment with only 2 bedrooms. She has 5 children, luckily they weren’t all there at the same time and her husband was coming up later in the week. One of her children is a very active 4 year old on a very high second floor porch with extremely dangerous stairs that are so steep and the threads are all different sizes. She had to watch him constantly. When she went to the office to complain the desk clerk, Joe was extremely rude. He said “ that’s what you got.” She said I want to talk to the owner” Joe said “ No we can’t call him we have to text him. “ On top of all this when she checked in he charged her $400 more stating...
