We walked to The Grey Goose on a Saturday for brunch shortly after they opened. We were greeted and seated quickly. Our server came around to check on us often which was great. It wasnt too busy or noisy, it was a nice overall ambiance.
For drinks we got the Watermelon Sugar which was more sweet than heat (not a bad thing, just something to note), and we also got a Belle Isle Lavender Lemonade, that was our favorite. It was sour from the lemonade, and not too sweet or lavendery.
For food we got a three appetizers and two entrees: *The pickled eggs are super interesting. The egg is nicely firm, the filling is whipped and flavorful.. tangy with a sweet aftertaste. Easy to eat in one bite! *The fried green tomatoes are sweet, which was different from what I'm used to, but not bad. I probably wouldn't get them again but my partner liked them. *The cheesy hush puppies were my favorite. Not oily, cheese wasn't overwhelming, and the dipping sauce was nice! It had a hint of horseradish 😋 *Banana Bread French Toast. The bread has nuts in it, so if you don't like or are allergic keep that in mind. It was sweet and very filling. It was our least favorite because it wasn't very "French toasty" if ya know what I mean. The breakfast potatoes were very good. *Veggie Fritatta. Veggies were fresh and potatoes were a perfect side. I also got a link of the wild boar andouille sausage on the side. It had a nice bite. It was a little pricey ($7) but I wasn't about to walk out of there without testing it! It was a little gamey and a little sour with a little bit of heat. I really liked it!
We also got a raspberry thumbprint cookie. It was very soft and very almondy. The raspberry part was my least favorite, I prefer a jam with seeds, but that's just a personal preference 😊
Overall, we look forward to going back and trying...
Read moreThis place has potential. The bar is nice but could use a TV to watch the games while waiting for a table. The dining area is like a sparse cavern with odd fake daytime lighting. We went there three times and it was WAY too bright. They need to turn down the lights in the evening or change to warm bulbs.
The highlight are the drinks and Ribeye steak. The first time we went the steaks were so awesome for the $25.50 price we came back a few days later with my children and their dates. Unfortunately, we came there for the ribeye but they were out so we had drinks and grabbed treats from the bakery.
Last night we returned after calling and making reservations to ensure they had the ribeyes this time. The steaks were good again excellent they had huge pieces of fat on each end. No where on the menu does it say no substitutes for the sides. So when I wanted collard greens instead of fries, I had to pay extra for another side even though I didn’t want the frozen fries. What restaurant does that!!!! I could have allergies or be on a carb free diet. You would think with the little business they get (no more than 3-4 tables each time we went in) they would accommodate. Some sides don’t even come with a dish.
My son’s catfish was mostly raw. They recooked it and took half off the dish.
Another odd thing, we were asked if we want lemons with our water. We were given lemons juice packets!!! McDonald’s even gives real lemons. I thought we were going to get ketchup packets too LOL.
I think the idea is to be a 3-4star restaurant but still needs work. Manager working on a computer needs to be out of sight, beat up paper menus, lemon packets and no side substitutions. We will come back for the steak due to the price anymore expensive and it would have been a one and done based on the sides issues and...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place, especially after having a great experience with their sweet potato biscuits at their previous location. Unfortunately, my visits have consistently been disappointing, and I can’t ignore what feels like a pattern of unequal treatment.
On my first visit, my mother and I (both Black women) walked in and were completely ignored, while white customers who came in after us were greeted warmly and enthusiastically. We let it slide, ordered to-go, and enjoyed the biscuits enough to recommend the place to a friend (who is white). She and her boyfriend went and not only had a great experience, but were also offered free items.
Still hoping it was a fluke, I gave the restaurant another try at their new location. I checked the menu online beforehand and saw a vegetarian frittata, which suited my dietary needs. But when we got there, we were told it wasn’t available. There was no update online and no vegetarian breakfast options ready to go. I asked if I could order a few sides instead, and after checking, they said yes. We also asked if the meat in a breakfast bowl could be substituted for something else. Again they had to check, and this time the answer was no.
The manager came out and explained that the online menu hadn’t been updated yet, which I understand. But instead of offering a thoughtful solution, she just suggested we order a salad. At breakfast. That kind of brush-off felt dismissive.
All in all, it’s hard to overlook how differently we were treated compared to white customers. I’ve given this place multiple chances, but the lack of accommodation and basic warmth is something I can’t ignore. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and reflects on how they treat all of...
