I'm going to start this review by saying that I don't have enough experience with Puerto Rican food to tell the difference between great and the greatest. I can tell the difference between good and bad; unpalatable and incredibly delicious, so that is how I am rating this restaurant. Not against other restaurants - against my tastebuds alone. I had the Jibarito (pork sandwich, between to fried plantain patties), it was served with lettuce, tomatoes and a special sauce (that tasted like fry sauce). It came with rice and beans. Additionally, I had a ground beef and plantain empanada (not what it was called on the menu, but for simplicity's sake that's what I'll call it). All of this was very, very good. I am not going to attempt to describe the flavors, but I can say DEFINITIVELY that every bite was incredibly delicious. When I first arrived, the place was reasonably busy which is not surprising for a Saturday night, but when I left there was a wait for a table. The location might leave a little to be desired. It is surrounded on two sides by a motel and the cafe itself could accurately be described as nondescript. It is easy to miss. The prices are very, very reasonable. The service was good. The real kicker was the Tembleque (coconut custard w/ cinnamon). This is a contender for best dessert I've ever paid less than $7 (and considerably less at that). I will definitely return with friends, family, significant others...anyone who will go with me.

This is a hole in the wall contender with great food and right next to some roach motel. Came here on a Saturday and not dissuaded by the lack of crowd. Ordered the pasteles aka Puerto Rican tamale. First time experiencing it but enjoyed the interesting savory flavor and texture. Also ordered tostones as an appetizer. The tostones do not appear pounded like the ones I’ve had at other places. But they were nonetheless tasty. The other dishes we ordered were steak jibarito and shrimp mofongo. The jibarito was good compared to others I’ve had but the rice that came with it was pretty dry. The mofongo came shaped as a bowl with shrimp and gravy. The shrimps were as small as they can get and was a bit heavy on the sodium. Overall, the food was tasty, affordably priced and comforting. The downside was the cold temperature of the interior that made it uncomfortable to dine. We’ll probably come again when the weather warms up and try the many other interesting dishes this place has to offer.

My favorite PR restaurant outside of Chicago! Their food is amazing and delicious! I am never disappointed! I hadn't been there in a yr and I went for my bday recently. They've added a larger size drink option, which I love, because they have Parcha and it is delicious! Only improvement needed? The booths are in need of repair, some seats are cracked etc. Other than that... LOVE IT!!

I was nearby about a year ago and decided to stop in. My family makes great food so I normally just get "frituras", rellenos, alcapurrias, etc. The food is ok, better than the nasty food trucks in Humboldt Park, but the services is just horrible. You never feel welcome when you walk in to order. You just get the "why are they here" look. You don't even get a simple "hello, how ya doing, what can I help you with?". So, a year later, out driving around with my family, we end up close o the restaurant. We checked with Google Maps to see if there was another nearby but unfortunately this was the closest. So we try again, and sure enough they didn't disappoint. The old lady in the front is just not friendly at all, just gives such a bad vibe. Three people up front, only one or two tables full, and I stood there for a while waiting to see if anyone was going to ask if we needed help. I decide to walk up to the counter asked if they had "morsilla", and the girl had no clue what I was talking about. So I just ask for 3 of each of what's in the window to make it as painless as possible and 3 pastelillos de pasta de guayaba. Make it short and sweet, and the mean old lady is the one that rings me up. Not a single word, hands me my receipt and a pen. Hands me my food and no thanks for coming in or goodbye. We sit out front in the car to eat, they forgot part of my order, I went back in and they had no clue either. I know it's a long review, but please take some advice, there are many reviews here that say the same thing, customer service is what keeps bringing people back, even if the food is just ok, but if you don't feel welcome, then why bother. I'd rather drive to the city or Milwaukee for some really good...

I remember going here fir the first time a few years ago, and dang... The rice was perfect ( was real good ) and the pastelas were absolutely worth the drive. I was like man this is great.

As time went on the quality of the two main foods I bought started to not taste good. I even made sure I got few hundred bucks for worth of food for Christmas and we'll that was not good. The rice wasn't right but the pastlas were so if you'd mix together, it would work.

Well went few more times after hoping to get back to the good stuff but it never happened. Now it's just yuck. The rice has no taste and the pastelas are not worth the money or the drive. My dogs use to love getting some rice and pastelas but they smelled it and walked away too.

It's unfortunate to see this place fall from grace. There is a place in Aurora that I heading to on our next carry out. I can't afford to buy food that most of it will end up in the garbage.

After writing a review on a food restaurant ( Never done before ) one just isn't gonna go back. Too bad to see them go down while using the Puerto Ricon 🇵🇷 name. They really shouldn't use the name.

Anyway... its tough to say these things and I hope this review will help those who expect the best while only getting the bare minimum. Not even the bare minimum, less then that.

The People are nice no problems with customer service. It's they lost the cooks. It's the cooks that make a restaurant. 💯 percent guarantee that ibwill never go back again. I'd rather go to burger King or Arby's. Even McDonald's. Sure hope the place in aurora...
