I was excited to try Scutari since there is a dearth of good Italian restaurants here on the South Shore.
We ordered the Calamari to start and ate some bread out of a bag while we waited (why?) for it to arrive.
The calamari tastes exactly like every other calamari you've ever had. Only maybe a little saltier and it comes with an Aioli that leaves you wishing it just came with marinara.
For entrees - my wife ordered the pork Milanese which was excellent and generous on the portion size if not a little plain. I got the veal parm as a special which also was enormous and came with home made pasta. However, sadly, the cost mirrored the size as it turned out to be a staggering $50.
For desert we tried the chocolate torte lava cake (surely, you can't mess that up?) but sadly despite the chocolate lava, the cake was dry and meh.
The by the glass selection was fine, not great. They were short in glasses so all the wine came up lightly heated.
It's a great imitation of a real Italian family style restaurant. The walls are barren, the menu leans towards presenting itself as more refined than it really is, and the food was no better than the nearby takeout spots I've known for years.
Sadly, the south shore still yearns for more authentic Italian dining experiences as you won't get it here. Scutari is the well to do mans imitation of the...
Read moreRevised review: We decided to give Scutari another try since we originally went when they first opened. We sat at the bar and John was our server, he was very attentive. The drinks were great and we were not in a hurry so we took our time ordering. The food was slow to come out, but turned out to be with the wait. I had the seafood ciopppino and my husband had the special which was a steak filet ,both were excellent choices! I am happy to say, we will be going back.
Original review: We were very excited to check this place out. First of all, the vibe is not what we expected. The music was loud and not what you would expect to be playing in an Italian restaurant . We were able to get seats at the bar, which was a bonus and the drinks were great. It went down hill from there. We were confused by some of the meal descriptions on the menu and had to google what some of the items were since unfortunately , the bartender didn’t know the answers. My meal was terrible and I had to send it back. My husband’s meal was just okay. I ended up getting an appetizer because I was so hungry. That took so long, we almost asked for the bill so we could leave. Not rushing back. Maybe it will get better since they just...
Read moreUpon entering Scutari, I was immediately consumed by the vibrant atmosphere and bustling service. The attentive staff greeted me with warm smiles, making me feel as though I had stepped off the suburban street and into a charming Mediterranean holiday restaurant.
The menu, though small, emphasizes quality over quantity. Each dish showcases high-end ingredients and is prepared fresh, which sets a promising tone for the dining experience. I was welcomed with a delightful bag of fresh bread paired with delicious olive oil, a perfect introduction to what was to come.
One of the standout dishes was the steamed little neck clams, which arrived bathed in an unforgettable sauce that transported me back to my last trip to Portugal. It was a delightful reminder of the coastal flavors I had enjoyed abroad.
The pizza was another highlight—light and crispy, topped with prosciutto. It was a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
Overall, my experience at Scutari was exceptional. The combination of attentive service, high-quality ingredients, and authentic Italian dishes made for a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend Scutari to anyone looking for a taste of Italy with a...
