I came here specifically because of the bad Yelp reviews. I wanted to see if it was like people had described it. Understand that this review is only my opinion, but it is unbiased to the best of my ability. I am somewhat of an ice-cream connoisseur, so anytime I get the chance to try a new flavor or experience a new business, I’m all in. After a nice dinner with a close friend of mine in downtown Petoskey, we were overcome with a sudden sweet tooth, and although it’s typical to opt for the dessert of the day, I was feeling ice cream. Normally, the go-to spot is Kilwin’s, but this time I was feeling a little more adventurous. I pulled up the Yelp app on my phone, and searched for ice cream shops in the area. To my surprise, Yummies was the only one that I hadn’t yet been to for miles around. I read the reviews and came to the conclusion that it seemed to be more of an upscale parlor. Luckily, I was wearing a designer collared shirt and tailored pants with a matching belt and shoes. I was all set and ready to indulge. My friend on the other hand, had decided to come a little more casual that evening — (Big Mistake). I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by the bright, fun colors of the interior and exterior design and the wide variety of ice cream choices. We were greeted with a smile by one employee while two others sat in the back of the store, engaged in conversation. Gazing out the window was an older gentleman, dressed in a salmon colored, collared, button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up flexing his gold Rolex. He was also wearing a black vest donning a university logo, tan cargo shorts and brown loafers. What really caught my eye, however, was the fact that he was wearing sunglasses [inside] at dusk. Clearly an elite man, and although I must admit I found it peculiar, I wasn’t there to judge. I went ahead and looked at my options for ice cream. Next, I had noticed the up and down and back and forth looks between my friend and I. Because of our polar opposite styles and lack of the “Thurston Howell III” (Transatlantic) type accent, I believe it was assumed that we were just run-of-the-mill folks who had stumbled upon the coveted pearl of the harbor springs community. Nevertheless, I dismissed the harsh reality of judging eyes all around, and ordered a single scoop of peanut butter/chocolate ice cream in a medium waffle cone, paid and promptly left with my friend after we got our orders. In conclusion, this visit partially confirmed the Yelp reviews about mediocre customer service, but I’d be willing to go again on the chance that it was an “off day”. Word to the wise, though — don’t even think about walking in unless you have at least a full pension, a beach home, expensive loafers, and a midsize luxury sedan. The ice cream is...

Read moreOnly takes cash. Kilwins is one block down the street and takes debit cards. Much better too. Shouldn’t have to pay an ATM fee. You are losing dollars as a business to refuse to take cards that cost minimal. Penny wise and pound foolish. Your losing more than it would cost for cards. Doesn’t upset me I just go to places that are more...
